Job description

The CASA Coordinator supervises, manages, and supports a CASA Volunteer caseload as well as, among other tasks, facilitates pre-service training classes for prospective CASA Volunteers. Reporting to the CASA Program Director, the Coordinator is a full-time, exempt position.

The CASA Coordinator must have occasional evening and weekend availability for CASA Training, CASA Monthly Meetings, CAN Council Fundraisers, etc. The CASA Coordinator shall be able to travel routinely throughout Bay, Huron & Saginaw Counties. The home office location is negotiable, and the selected candidate may choose to work primarily from CAN Council offices in Bad Axe, Bay City or Saginaw.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and manage a CASA Volunteer caseload of approximately 30 volunteers; responsible for assigning volunteers, developing case plans with volunteers, and updating case information in the database
  • Maintain frequent contact with, and provide support to, each assigned volunteer and keep a tracking system of all contacts
  • Serve as a professional liaison between the court, collateral professionals, and the CASA Volunteers; keep a tracking system of all contacts
  • Assist volunteers with drafting CASA Court Reports with appropriate case recommendations; edit, proofread and file reports timely
  • Attend multi-disciplinary team meetings and wrap-around meetings when necessary
  • Provide regular reports to the CASA Program Director on case/volunteer activity
  • Provide verbal, and/or written recognition of volunteer contributions, and assist in the development of volunteer support/recognition activities
  • Help to set goals regarding case management; monitor progress of volunteers
  • Report any concerns with staff, volunteers, or cases immediately to the CASA Program Director for coordination of response
  • Assist the CASA Program Director with the screening of prospective CASA Volunteers
  • Participate in CASA pre-training interviews to determine the suitability of applicants
  • Plan for and conduct initial CASA training in compliance with National CASA standards
  • Plan for and conduct ongoing in-service training opportunities for active CASA Volunteers
  • Attend the Michigan CASA Annual State Conference along with other professional development opportunities
  • Assist CAN Council Staff in various tasks and responsibilities as necessary
  • Contact community groups and organizations to arrange presentations to recruit CASA volunteers and increase community awareness of the CASA Program

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Social Work or related human service studies
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a related field
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with emphasis on writing and editing
  • Ability to positively and with self-confidence and equanimity, communicate with judges, lawyers, social workers, foster parents, agency personnel, and children
  • Knowledge of the child welfare and juvenile justice systems as well as an understanding of the dynamics of child abuse and neglect
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and the functionality of databases
  • Excellent interviewing and assessment skills; experience in planning, organizing, training, and supervising a program or volunteers
  • Ability to work independently, balancing diverse program tasks and needs, while exercising professional discretion and sound judgment
  • Organizer and collaborator; proactive and timely; ability to work efficiently, effectively and with flexibility
  • Ability to deal with a variety of emotionally charged situations in an effective, calm and diplomatic manner
  • Demonstrate respect for all people regardless of age, color, national origin, citizenship status, physical or mental disability, race, religion, creed, gender, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, genetic information, marital status, status about public assistance or veteran status
  • Willingness to work flexible hours
