About IMI Critical Engineering

IMI Critical Engineering is an international leader in the provision of custom-engineered, high-temperature valves for the iron & steel, petrochemical and refining industries. IMI has over 135 years’ experience of working with refiners, technology licensors and operators to develop our high-quality, specialized valves. We specialize in valves that are suitable for use in high operating temperatures, large sizes, and that have a high frequency of operation. In-house engineers customize valves to customers’ needs and continue to develop advanced technologies to reduce the long-term operating costs.

Position Summary

The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate estimates for projects by gathering information and analyzing metrics. This position will provide valuable information to help make informed business decisions in order to enhance profitability and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the project/program and its requirements
  • Conduct research to obtain data on materials, production times etc.
  • Identifies labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents
  • Prepares work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents
  • Determine key variables for cost and other estimates
  • Review material and labor requirements, to decide whether it is more cost-effective to produce or purchase components
  • Gather first-hand information from sites, warehouses or other venues
  • Use software for data analysis, forecasting and budgeting
  • Obtain and review offers and quotes by subcontractors or vendors
  • Perform risk analysis
  • Create and submit estimate reports or bids to appropriate persons (project managers, clients, bidding competitions etc.)
  • Build relationships with key vendors (subcontractors, suppliers, engineers etc.)
  • Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
  • Provide consultation on planning schedules
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Required Skills:

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines
  • Ability to do math of different units of measure
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 2 years of previous experience working as an Estimator in a manufacturing environment
