Blast Cleaning Technologies, Inc. (BCT) has a full-time Cost Analyst position available. This is an in-person position that requires interdepartmental work completed in the team atmosphere and environment at our West Allis, WI facility.

General Description
The Cost Analyst role will manage overall cost accounting processes, and project variance analysis to achieve profitable growth and operational excellence. While this position reports to the Controller, the Cost Analyst will be heavily integrated with our engineering team to optimize pricing, track material and project variances and develop reporting to quickly identify potential issues. The Cost Analyst will also drive the budgeting process, and inventory control, working with other department staff and various levels of plant management and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
  1. Prepare, evaluate, and monitor financial performance, cost control, and profitability for projects, product lines and components.
  2. Collaborate with Engineering, Project Management and Plant Management to perform variance reporting and establish original baseline budgets, including creating project breakdown structures.
  3. Develop and implement reports, tools and processes to drive system cost data reliability and product margin improvements
  4. Prepare project-based cost, profitability and inventory analyses for plant and senior management
  5. Assists in the development of standard costs for all components and finished goods for use by sales for quoting.
  6. Accountable for compliance to cost accounting standards and methodology, assists in the communication and training of plant personnel.
  7. Participate, prepare, and upload product cost standards; and ensure accuracy of data in cost system with product specification engineering standards through audit, root cause discovery and resolution.
  8. Analyze actual operating results for variances to standard (detail cost elements including material, labor, overhead), scrap, and other performance measurements (capacity, utilization, etc) and work with plant personnel in identifying opportunities for improvement. Provide detailed insights on cost drivers and production impacts of various initiatives both proposed and implemented.
  9. Participate in the preparation of the annual budget process with emphasis on updating product costs. Support plant budget and forecast process in the areas of machine utilization, production hours, labor and overhead rates.
  10. Assists Controller in the close cycle (monthly, quarterly, yearly) and reporting process, responsible for cost related reconciliation and reporting, reconciles key accounts and prepare journal entries as necessary to correct any discrepancies
  11. Actively participates in the continuous improvement process by identifying and addressing any opportunities to reduce cost, improve product/process and/or improve overall operations.

  • Ability to research, compile, analyze and interpret data using tools such as Power BI, Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical ability and thorough understanding of computer systems and accounting principles.
  • Proven ability to work independently.
  • Detail oriented and demonstrated ability to adapt to a fast-paced and ever-changing work environment.
  • Possesses strong math aptitude, work accurately with numbers, good organization skills and time / priority management skills.
  • Good written, verbal communication and collaborative skills.

Education and/or Experience
  • Five or more years of related experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Two years of Cost Accountant experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • CPA or CMA certification is considered a plus.
  • Proficiency in using ERP software, Excel, and other Microsoft Office products.

Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Work Environment
This job operates primarily in an office environment, with work that will occasionally take them out to the shop floor. While performing the duties of this job out in the shop, the employee may occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. When in the shop the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the shop is sometimes loud enough to require hearing protection.
