Form of workPrimary purpose:
- The primary purpose of the Corrosion Technician is to operate and maintain the corrosion control facilities through planning and implementation of corrosion control activities for pipelines and storage facilities, including installation, operation and maintenance. The Corrosion Technician must also ensure compliance with company policies/procedures as well as federal and state regulations.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Responsible for all activities related to corrosion control (Internal/External) and pipeline integrity.
- Cathodic protection includes recording annual pipe-to-soil readings, rectifier readings, bond readings, road casing status, insulated effectiveness with an Allegro data recorder. Analyze and make recommendations based on the data collected.
- Troubleshooting rectifier units, remote monitoring, perform interference testing, and overseeing cathodic protection installations.
- Supervise contractor on new groundbed installations and close interval survey(s).
- Monitor the condition of the pipeline through pipe-to-soil potentials, visual inspection, examination of coupons, data from in-line inspection tools, etc.
- Conduct industry tests, measurements and surveys to ensure efficient operation of cathodic protection equipment.
- Responsible for all activities related to internal corrosion control program for assigned pipeline areas.
- Collect all internal corrosion liquid samples at liquid sample pots and at pig traps.
- Collect and replace corrosion coupons from designated corrosion coupon sites.
- Complete in field liquid sample chemical analysis and bacterial testing.
- Load all data to the Kinder Morgan internal corrosion database (TSIMS) on a timely basis.
- Maintain all field internal corrosion equipment.
- Set corrosion inhibitor injection rates as prescribed by the Corrosion Support Group.
- Witness and document internal inspection of pipeline sections including piping in facilities.
- Collect data required to define the nature of internal corrosion threat and the effectiveness of mitigation actions.
- Prepare and participate in internal and external annual review meetings.
- Document all related work associated with performing and maintaining regulatory compliance and operating and maintenance procedures.
- Prepare and participate in regulatory inspections.
- The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.
