The Position

Correctional Officers maintain and supervise offenders in State correctional facilities in a controlled humane environment. This position may be at a Maximum-Security Prison.

Incumbents receive structured classroom and on-the-job training in performing most of the duties described in the series concept. This is the trainee level in the series and incumbents progress to the next level in the series upon meeting minimum qualifications, satisfactory performance and the recommendation of the appointing authority. Correctional Officers maintain and supervise inmates in state Correctional facilities in a controlled humane environment. This position will be at a Conservation Camp in Pioche, NV, this is a minimum-security facility. Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. Minimum qualification is to list 2 years of your most recent full time or equivalent work history. Work history can be part time or full time work, military or college experience after high school graduation. Although 2 years is the minimum qualification, please list your most recent 10 years of work history and any additional CORRECTIONAL OFFICER related experience. 1 to 2 weeks after your application has been verified you will be invited via email to the address you have on your application to a Physical Fitness testing date. If you pass all events then you will stay the remainder of the day to complete additional pre-hire activities to include background documents, a psychological test, an interview, drug test and fingerprinting.

In order to qualify as a Correctional Officer (CO): non trainee - Promote Day After Hire: -Minimum Bachelors in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Criminology or Administration of Justice, or - AA + 6 months of experience as CO or - One year of experience as a CO in Correctional facility, or - 5 years as a Police officer. NOTE: As part of the selection process, the Nevada Department of Corrections will conduct: 1) POST physical fitness test which consists of a vertical jump of 15 inches, Agility run in 20.4 seconds, 20 push-ups (not timed), a 300 meter run in one minute fourteen seconds, and a 1.5 mile run/walk in 17 minutes 37 seconds. 2) Extensive background investigation. 3) Drug test 4) Medical Physical examination 5) Psychological examination 6) Correctional Officer Structured Interview THESE POSITIONS ARE LOCATED IN PIOCHE, NEVADA.
