Job description

This is a position at Piedmont Correctional Institution located in Salisbury, N.C. (Rowan County), which is a Medium male prison facility housing 800 inmates. Employees in this class are involved in the planning, supervision, and coordination of activities in a medium-custody facility or institution and supervise Correctional Lieutenant II's. Employees follow security policies and procedures, perform on-the-job training, assign and supervise custody staff, and coordinate administrative affairs within the facility. Employees serve as shift supervisors of mid to large sized medium-custody prison facilities or institutions and may serve as an Officer-in-Charge. Positions are responsible for the daily management of off-site activities when inmates are in the community for extended periods of time. Positions supervise more employees than the Correctional Captain I and supervise inmates in facilities that may include restrictive housing. Positions typically report to a Correctional Associate Warden.

The salary grade for this position is NC11. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Salary Grade: NC11 Salary Range: $42,264.00 - $74,313.00

About the Department of Adult Correction (DAC):
The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons, Correction Enterprises, the Division of Community Supervision, and the Division of Rehabilitation & Reentry.The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed below, along with the Minimum Education and Experience requirements, are REQUIRED to qualify for this position. To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

High school or General Education Development (GED) diploma and two years six months of experience as a Correctional Lieutenant, or two years of experience as a Correctional Lieutenant II; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

This is in addition to submitting fingerprints during the application process.
