This position reports to the Associate Warden of Custody and is involved in the planning, supervision, and coordination of activities at a medium custody institution. Employees in this position interpret and follow security policies and procedures; perform on-the-job training; assign, schedule, and supervise custody staff; and coordinate administrative affairs within the facility. This position may This position's responsibilities include the following:
- Provide direct supervision to Correctional Lieutenants and/or Correctional Sergeants.
- Assist with personnel actions and administrative affairs.
- Coordinate activities involving discipline, security, and the welfare of the offender population.
- Serve as shift supervisor.
- Serve as the Officer-in-Charge when needed.
- Coordinate actions such as employee leave requests, interviewing applicants for employment, monthly reports, offender concerns or issues, and other activities relative to a correctional facility or institution.
- Conduct inspections of housing units and other buildings, grounds, and posts to ascertain that officers are alert, discipline is being maintained, and assignments are carried out properly.
- Review investigations regarding security issues, incidents, disputes, and complaints.
- Assist in assessing, evaluating, and implementing employee discipline. May serve on the offender classification committee.
- Prepare a variety of records and reports.
- Perform other duties as required.

If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry.
