Corporate Counsel, Investigations

Okta is seeking an experienced ethics and compliance investigations attorney to join our growing Ethics & Compliance team. We are seeking a highly collaborative and entrepreneurial team member who will support Okta's internal investigations and find new ways to improve and scale our global investigations and compliance processes. This role will report to Okta's Director, Compliance and Investigations Counsel.


What you'll be doing

Your primary responsibilities will include managing investigations covering a wide range of compliance topics relating to Okta's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. You'll be responsible for end-to-end global investigations, from assessing initial allegations to developing and executing investigation plans, collecting evidence, conducting interviews, reviewing findings, preparing investigation reports, and making remediation recommendations. You'll also have the opportunity to contribute to other ethics and compliance initiatives, such as policies, procedures, and training.


  • Work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams (Internal Audit, Employee Relations, etc.) on a wide range of time-sensitive compliance-related investigations and other projects;
  • Coordinate with outside counsel where necessary, including on investigation strategy and budget;
  • Track and report on status and outcomes of investigations, and maintain records of all investigations;
  • Develop investigation metrics enabling insight into compliance areas of focus;
  • Support review and update of Okta's internal investigations policies and procedures;
  • Assist with management and support of Okta's ethics hotline;
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to mitigate compliance risks and assist with trainings and communications;
  • Partner with other teams on eDiscovery and records retention practices and procedures;
  • Where necessary, provide investigation and eDiscovery support to the litigation team on various matters;
  • Provide support for various other ethics and compliance program projects and processes.

What you'll bring to the role

  • 6+ years of legal experience conducting all aspects of internal corporate investigations with an in-house legal department and/or top-tier law firm;
  • JD and good standing to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction;
  • Strong ethics and integrity, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain confidentiality over sensitive compliance matters;
  • Subject matter expertise in the FCPA, UK Bribery Act, and other global anti-corruption laws;
  • Attention to detail, critical thinking, excellent problem-solving;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Flexible and able to balance multiple priorities at once and ability to quickly adjust priorities to meet business needs;
  • Deep knowledge of eDiscovery issues, including document retention policies and procedures; collection, review, and production of documents;
  • Strong organizational skills, an ability to juggle multiple projects at a time in a fast-moving, quickly-changing environment, both collaborating as a team and working independently;
  • Self-motivated–showing initiative and perseverance, resourcefulness, a strong work ethic, and a collaborative approach;
  • Sense of humor!
