The Opportunity 

As the Corporate Counsel based in the United States, you will be responsible for providing advice to the business on a variety of issues in different disciplines. You will develop relationships with key Abt leaders. You will work independently with minimal supervision in practice areas in which you already have an expertise and with closer supervision on areas that we ask you to learn. You will have the opportunity to facilitate ground breaking work in public health, climate and energy, global development and other areas in which Abt works. You will report to the Deputy General Counsel and work closely with the General Counsel and Associate General Counsel.

Core Responsibilities 

• Advise colleagues on issues related to government contracting, particularly around bids and pursuits, compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements, 
• Advise Human Resources and business teams on employment issues for US-based staff including FLSA, performance management, FMLA, ADA. 
• Support Abt's Institutional Review Board to ensure that humans subjects are protected in Abt's work including by advising on discrete issues and negotiating reliance agreements.. 
• Ensure the company complies with all applicable privacy laws, including by conducting research and consulting with outside counsel as necessary.
• Conducts research and analysis of specific legal questions and advise the business on a variety of legal areas.
• Contribute to and participate in other tasks of the department as assigned, particularly around initiatives intended to manage risk.
• Maintain and share current awareness of new and material changes to United States laws relevant to the above areas. 
• Support the General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel and Associate General Counsel responsible for Abt's US Domestic Group business partner relationships in the development, implementation and continual improvement of a pragmatic framework for Abt's legal affairs in the United States, including legal risk management, legal operations and the management of external counsel relationships and fees.
• Other reasonable duties as required.

• Juris Doctorate + 5 years of practice, ideally including in private practice or relevant in-house role
• Active state bar membership in good standing mandatory. 
• Ability to quickly learn new substantive practice areas.
• Ability to work independently and create practical solutions that mitigate risk for the cmpany.

• Outstanding collaboration and teamwork abilities.
• Be able to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of the organization, internally and externally.

• Be a highly organized and disciplined thinker, planner, advisor, and implementer possessing solid business acumen and superior judgment.
• Ability to work concurrently on multiple complex tasks and to respond to changing priorities
• Good cultural awareness and ability to build strong stakeholder relationships 
• Ability to travel internationally.
• Experience in relevant areas of law in an in-house context 
• Experience in the international development or government contracting sectors
• French language skills

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $121,000 to $190,000, and may vary by ten percent depending on candidate geographic location.  Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis.
