Job Profile Summary
Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for researching, interviewing, and writing and editing copy for internal and external communication for inclusion in communication and marketing collaterals such as flyers, brochures, advertisements, college publications, email communications, blogs, and webpages.
This position will assist with executing strategies developed by the Office of Public Affairs and Marketing. These multi-faceted communication and marketing programs are designed to build and strengthen the College's presence and brand as a leader and authority in post-secondary education. The position plays a crucial role in creating and streamlining the College's key messages and its editorial and brand style guide across multiple platforms. The position manages internal communication and some marketing-related directives as assigned by the Associate Vice President, Public Relations and Communications. This position requires strong writing and reporting skills, creativity, and is a good fit for a candidate who is a deadline-driven self-starter with innovative ideas. The ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate well with a team is a must.
Minimum Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, mass communication, English or a related discipline, with emphasis on writing.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.

Minimum Experience/Training:
  • Four years of professional copywriting experience in Marketing or Public Relations

Essential Functions:
  • Daily - 20%: Writes and edits internal and external communication pieces including blog post, web copy, and communications from leadership to ensure compliance with editorial style and branding guidelines.
  • Daily - 20%: Assists with writing content for newsletters, marketing collateral, brochures, flyers, posters, and advertisements.
  • Daily - 10%: Builds and fosters collaborative relationships with other departments across the College to stay informed and abreast of new initiatives and programs. Conducts interviews across the College as needed to create or fact check content.
  • Daily - 10%: Researches and participates in producing a full range of materials to effectively support the Broward College marketing and communication goals and activities to internal and external audiences.
  • Other - 10%: Contributes to developing marketing and public relations campaigns that support the College's strategic goals and objectives.
  • Other - 10%: Supports research and writing of major publications for the College such as the annual report.
  • Other - 5%: Develops in-depth knowledge of the College's Editorial and Brand guidelines to maintain accuracy and consistency in communication efforts.
  • Other - 5%: Assists with reporting data and outcomes for communication projects, including tracking the College's awards and accomplishments.
  • Other - 5%: Represents the public relations and communication team on various college committees. Attends events as necessary to fulfill assignments.
  • Other - 5%: Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to interact with a diverse population, as well as communicate academic and complex material to various audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to make direct connections with key stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Strong knowledge of marketing and communication platforms and understanding of creating messages relevant to each, and/or willingness to train in new platforms to achieve competency.
  • Demonstrated understanding of websites, web page structure, and familiarity with various web platforms.
  • Ability to prioritize projects, meet deadlines, and respond to assignments with a short turnaround time.
  • Expertise in understanding and following project plans, including the coordination of multiple resources and activities.
  • Ability to think strategically and execute strategies based on action plans; strong organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with AP Style and best practices for copyediting.
  • General understanding of the College's structure, policies and practices, and the impact on own area.
  • Ability to coordinate interdependencies of work and resources within and outside the department.
