                                                                                        Coordinator, Student Engagement

                                                                                             Enrollment Management

                                      Retention & Student Success

The Coordinator for Student Engagement (LASSO) implements department mission, goals, and objectives through effective outreach to Latinx students at Georgia State University and the support of scholarship programs within the Cultures, Communities & Inclusion (CCI) team. The coordinator role focuses on retention, persistence, and graduation of Latinx student to support the development of students’ sense of belonging at a large campus and supports their cultural identity. This position works closely other departments within CCI and collaborates with other departments throughout the university to advance the mission of Latinx student development. They act as a liaison for LASSO and various university administrative offices and academic departments as well as the greater Atlanta community and professional organizations. The scope of responsibility includes these specific duties, but is not limited to the following:

Programming

Goizueta Foundation Grant

·         Create and coordinate monthly cohort meetings

·         Centralize LASSO communication with cohort meetings via designated platforms

Latinx Programming

  • Provide support to diverse and underrepresented Latinx students, which includes advisement, educational programming, retention referrals & resources, and leadership opportunities.
  • Coordinate ongoing educational programs including heritage months, community connections mentoring program, and supporting New Student Orientation (NSO) and Panther Welcome; Connect and partner with identity-based student clubs and departments with regards to programming, needs, and services.
  • Outreach/Consultation/Advising 

    Advising & Student Success

    ·         Provide general guidance to LASSO students about their majors.

    ·         Provide consultation to student organizations coordinating programs related to social justice and multicultural education.

    Collaboration, Partnerships, and Campus Involvement

    ·         Attend appropriate university functions and campus events to maintain visibility/approachability

    ·         Serve as a resource to faculty and staff on issues related to the Latinx population.

    ·         Market study abroad scholarships and opportunities to increase participation of Latinx PC students in these programs.

    Professional Development

    Assessment

    ·         Assist with conducting a wide range of assessment measures to track student retention efforts which could include surveys and student focus groups.

    ·         Maintain records and provide narrative and/or written progress reports as directed, including program assessments/evaluations, budget reports, and program reports.

  • Utilize university supported software systems to improve Student Engagement, persistence, retention, and graduation rates.
  • Budget Management

    ·         Assist with managing the departmental budget by tracking expense and completing monthly budget reports.

    ·         Responsible for managing a programming budget for events, speakers, and other necessary expenses.

    Compliance

  • Monitor the LASSO Office and report any misconduct and/or misuse as appropriate.
  • Make recommendations on student policies and procedures to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Supervision

  • Participate in the LASSO and the Cultures, Communities & Inclusion (CCI) meetings, trainings, team building and professional development initiatives.
  • Provide supervision of undergraduate and graduate/professional staff.
  • ·         Complete administrative tasks including, but not limited to maintaining accurate documentation after each visit, responding to student inquiries about academic coaching, as well as sending correspondence based on outreach efforts.

    ·         Contribute to the overall success of the LASSO Office by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Training & Presentations

  • Develop, support, collaborate, facilitate, and assess relevant workshops and trainings regarding student success, academic support, identity-development, leadership, social justice, and community building and belonging;
  • Participate in divisional, state, regional, and national professional training opportunities:
  • Marketing and Communications 

    ·         Connect with GSU alumni to feature in our events and cohort meetings to continue the network of our current students

    ·         Serve as a LASSO representative with companies wanting to connect with GSU’s Latinx population

    ****Other duties as assigned for this role.


    Qualifications

    Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

    Master's degree and two years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.
