Under the general direction of the Associate Dean of Students, Student Success & Engagement (SSE), the Coordinator of Disability Student Services (DSS) is responsible for promoting an accessible, inclusive, and equitable culture for students with disabilities. The Coordinator works closely with faculty, staff, and administrators of the college to ensure that students with disabilities are appropriately accommodated in all aspects of their college experience. The incumbent is responsible for the development of policies and procedures that address the needs and concerns of students with disabilities and ensure campus compliance to all applicable federal laws. The incumbent ensures legal compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, 2008 Amendments to the ADA, Sections 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and other legislation pertinent to persons with disabilities. A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL:  Oversee the direct service to students with physical, cognitive, psychological, psychiatric, and learning disabilities to determine eligibility for accommodations and the necessity and type of reasonable accommodations.Advocate for change that would remove barriers to students with disabilities.Provide appropriate referrals to college resources, including but not limited to Academic Advising, CARE Team, Career Services, and the Academic Resource Center.Maintain and manage a student information database and documents student participation, accommodations, and progress.Keep individual records of all student and family communication, decisions, and actions taken.Provide workshops to faculty and students on accessibility services. Contributes and assists with the development of resource materials and publications related to students with disabilities.Present at New Student Orientation and other student events to provide information about DSS to students and their families.Facilitate communication between students and faculty on academic accommodations needed by students with disabilities and promotes understanding/awareness of the needs and concerns of students with disabilities. Evaluate and assess requests for disability accommodations.Collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to determine reasonable and appropriate accommodations.Provide guidance and support to students with disabilities, assisting them in navigating academic requirements and campus resourcesFacilitate workshops and training sessions to educate students on available services and resources.Work closely with faculty and staff to implement accommodations and ensure compliance with relevant laws and policies.Provide training to faculty on creating an inclusive classroom environment.Advocate for the inclusion and accessibility needs of students with disabilities within the university community.Collaborate with campus organizations to promote disability awareness and sensitivity.Stay current with federal and state regulations related to disability services in higher education.Ensure university policies align with relevant laws and guidelines.Develop and implement assessment strategies to evaluate the effectiveness of Disability services.Prepare regular reports on accommodation usage, feedback, and trends.Manage and allocate resources to meet the needs of students with disabilities.Work with vendors and contractors to provide necessary assistive technology and services.   The full position description is available for your review online -  Coordinator of Disability Student Services  The President of Baker College invites dynamic, thoughtful, and innovative faculty to join the Baker College team.  The new President’s vision is ambitious, forward-thinking, and dedicated to a Student-First philosophy.   Founded in 1911, Baker College is committed to embracing technology, sparking innovation, and fostering a supportive learning environment where students can get the real-world knowledge, skills, and experiences they need to pursue the life and career they want. Washington Street, Owosso, Michigan 48867 RequirementsMINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors’ degree from an accredited four-year college or university, required; Master’s degree preferred in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Special Education, Social Work, Rehabilitation Counseling, Human Services or closely related field.Knowledge of and ability to interpret a variety of accessibility documents, results of various assessments and diagnostic tools required. Ability to make recommendations and create plans for reasonable accommodations required.Minimum of three years' experience working in Disability Services, required.Thorough knowledge of all broad categories of disabilities (learning, mobility, visual, hearing, medical, psychiatric) and the reasonable accommodations that apply required.Bilingual highly preferred.
