Overview

Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine is recruiting an On-Call Coordinator for Health Careers Pathway Program. Must commit to 10 hours per week for a total of 9 months and must be flexible. Assists the Manager for Health Equity and Pathway Programs with Pathway Program development and diversity affairs.  Responsible for program activities with the goal of establishing educational partnerships, identification and recruitment of promising diverse students in grades 4 -12 through undergraduate college.  This encompasses planning and implementation of academic enrichment activities including program development, coordination of shadowing and health related community service opportunities to prepare youth for entry into and successful completion of health professional training programs and program evaluation. 

 

Responsibilities
  • Serves as the Pathway ProgramCoordinator for all Pathway Programs at WMed.
  • Assist the Manager of Health Equity and Pathway Programs with additional duties.
  • Attends planning meetings with the team.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Teams or other virtual platforms.
  • Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associates degree/ Bachelor's degree preferred and some related field or 3-5 years of experience in educational outreach, program development or similar field.
  • Demonstrated excellence in public speaking, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability and dedication to assist with the development of students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects of different scales.
  • Ability to problem solve, meet deadlines, prioritize work, interpret and apply rules, policies and procedures.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and social media.
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of work flow.
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as with a team.
  • Able to perform duties independently, with a minimal need for direct supervision.

WMed is fully accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education and the Higher Learning Commission. The medical school offers a comprehensive, innovative four-year Doctor of Medicine degree program and two Master of Science degree programs in Biomedical Sciences and Medical Engineering. We train physicians in 10 residencies and five fellowships accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. To support our educational mission, we have Joint Accreditation for interprofessional continuing education, which incorporates accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education.

 

WMed Health is the clinical practice of the medical school with more than 300 providers offering comprehensive primary care and specialty services in several locations throughout Kalamazoo, Portage, and Battle Creek. The Department of Pathology faculty serve as the Office of the Medical Examiner for counties throughout Michigan and northern Indiana.

 

The W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus located in downtown Kalamazoo serves as the primary educational facility with faculty and administrative offices, student study and social spaces, team-based learning halls, a state-of-the-art Simulation Center accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, basic science research labs, as well as toxicology and forensic pathology labs.

 

WMed is building upon Kalamazoo's century-long foundation of drug discovery and medical device development with a strategic investment in clinical, laboratory, community, and educational research. The Center for Immunobiology, Center for Clinical Research, Research Histology Lab, Innovation Center, and Human Research Protection Program contribute to the medical school's advancement of knowledge through innovation and discovery.
