- Coordinates daily activities of the Clinic Phlebotomy Services staff responsible for registration, collection, labeling and/or processing of patient specimens for testing. Possesses all skills of Tech III to fill staff vacancies as needed.
- Orders and maintains an adequate inventory of commonly used supplies to ensure immediate availability; checks the expiration dates of stored items to ensure that the dates are not expired and takes appropriate action to remove any out-dated item.
- Supervises and instructs staff responsible for the registration, collection and receipt of blood and non blood specimens.
- Reviews test requisitions and specimen labels for accurate information and orders tests appropriately; follows up on all tests with incomplete information or questionable test orders.
- Schedules and arrives lab appointments. Verified and updates insurance information and triages specimens to the proper testing facility. Obtains waivers for Medicare coverage when applicable.
- Distributes patient labels for collection of in house specimens and processes all emergency orders (STATS) within the required time frame. Preserves the integrity of each sample prior to distributing them to the appropriate department.
- Reconciles outstanding test orders that have not been resolved through standard operating procedures.
- Initiates intervention on unacceptable specimens, as needed. Participates and documents quality improvement activities as it relates to registration procedures, wait times, phlebotomy, processing and the transportation of specimens.
- Preferred High school diploma or equivalent. Some college preferred. 4 yrs phlebotomy processing preferred. Phlebotomy certification preferred.

The grade and salary of the position are based on specific criteria met within the qualifications of each level, relevant experience, skills, performance and internal equity. This position is eligible for shift differentials.
