Job Description
The Controls Technician is responsible for designing, programming, repairing, and maintaining programmable logic controller (PLC) systems used within production/manufacturing facilities. Can complete prioritized controls work orders in Siemens S7 platform. May support repairs and installations for our advanced production/manufacturing equipment. May mentor and provide support to less experienced technicians. Diagnoses equipment malfunctions and makes more complicated repairs or adjustments as needed.
Job Description
- Working knowledge, and understanding of programming in PLC language, i.e. (LAD) ladder diagram, (CSF) control system flowchart, GRAPH, and (STL) statement list.
- PLC specification and programming, including HMI development following, established corporate-wide standards
- Troubleshoots complex specialized problems to determine the causes of equipment failure. Makes necessary permanent or temporary repairs to bring equipment back on line. Analyzes failure and takes steps to prevent reoccurrence.
- Troubleshoot robotic to plc interface programming, modify if needed.
- Troubleshoot and modify vision systems (Cognex/Keyence).
- Capable of identifying programming issues and bugs and communicating with controls engineers.
- Capable of proficiently troubleshooting servo drive systems, specifically Rexroth and Siemens.
- Interfaces with maintenance, management, and engineering groups to achieve the best possible solutions to process control problems.
- Willingness to complete and help with mechanical repairs and troubleshooting as needed.
- Willingness/ability to learn new technology and processes.
- Gives feedback to Engineering on problems to be avoided in the future
Qualifications
DEGREE: Ideal candidate will possess an associate degree in Industrial Maintenance Technology, or Mechatronics, or Electrical
EXPERIENCE: 3 – 5+ years’ experience with industrial automation and maintenance activities.
- Troubleshooting: Controls technicians must be able to find the root cause of issues and think logically about solutions.
- Critical Thinking: When diagnosing problems, Controls technicians must think critically in their process of repairing the issue.
- Mechanical Skills: Controls technicians read blueprints and schematics and use an array of tools and diagnostic devices to service and install electrical parts.
- Effective presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
High level of teamwork, detail oriented, self-motivated, and the ability to multi-task in a dynamic and challenging manufacturing environment.
