Controls Design Engineer

Job Description
The Controls Design Engineer is responsible for the accurate electrical distribution calculations and design of the control system and control elements. He/She will generate the single line documentation and schedules, specify control equipment selected from a WET standard equipment library, produce functionality reports, design the fountain control system and issue detailed, uniform and standard fabrication drawings in schematic form.
Requirements
- Proficient in the design of electrical control systems. Ability to accurately calculate system loads, power requirements and support the calculations with solid established practices and documentation.
- Ability to specify PLC’s and supporting hardware and software, power supplies AC and DC, transformers, contactors, relays, VFD drives and motion control devices, fuses and circuit protection, GFCI’s, E-stop systems and animation control systems.
- Produce functionality reports to reflect the system requirements and provide an overall operational outline of the proposed system for review
- Working closely with the Project Engineer, generate schematic drawings in AutoCAD to be used in fabrication ensuring all system requirements and control issues are addressed and that the system will operate safely and consistently, ensuring applicable UL, CE or ETL compliance as well as consideration for specific project contractor concerns.
- Generate electrical terminations and interconnecting wiring between control panels
- Work closely with fabrication to resolve fit, integration and operational issues.
- Assist in testing and configuring the feature control systems to ensure proper operation prior to shipping to site.
- Intimate knowledge of electrical codes, contractor trade practices, methods and materials used in electrical installations. Proficient in the proper implementation of practices that conform to electrical codes.
- Ability to prepare detailed schedules, reports, and responds to client or field installation questions and accurately articulate resolutions.
- Strong verbal communication skills, attention to detail and organizational abilities.
Education
- Electrical Engineering Degree or formal electrical training in related field.
