POSITION SUMMARY
The segment controller manages accounting staff, oversees the daily processes, and prepares the financial statements for the business unit. Duties also include financial analysis for senior financial management and BULs, assisting with the annual financial audit, and completing other various projects within the finance/accounting organization including technological enhancements, accounting process improvements, internal control documentation, and acting as a liaison between the business unit terminals and other departments
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
This position will have direct reports, including Staff and/or Senior Staff Accountants. Interface responsibilities include senior financial and business unit operations management, terminal managers, and personnel within other departments of our services including accounts payable, payroll, treasury, purchasing, tax, and accounting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Ensure corporate monthly closing deadlines are met by the group.
Review, approve, and post journal entries.
Initiate and/or approve changes to standard/recurring journal entries.
Review and approve monthly, quarterly, or annual audit schedules as required to support the internal/external audit function.
Reconcile accounts and prepare support documentation in BlackLine
Review monthly financials to ensure accuracy of financial information.
Oversee the preparation and/or distribution of the monthly financial reports, including gross margin reports, freight under management reports and reconciliations, etc.
Assist senior financial management and/or operations with the following:
P&L Accounts and/or terminals with significant variances to plan or prior year
Customer and carrier margin reviews
Research items requested by senior financial or operations management
Other Functions:
Review and prepare schedules for the annual financial audit for the KAG group.
Assist in the implementation of special projects related to accounting, including, but not limited to:
Accelerated close
ERP upgrade and enhancements
TMS upgrade, enhancements, and implementations
Assist with GL conversions/integrations as necessary for future acquisitions.
Assist other company services departments in resolving accounting/control issues.
Lead the preparation for the company Logistics financial audit workpapers and support.
Prepare the annual business/capital plan for review by FP&A and operations.
Qualifications
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Bachelor’s in Accounting
5-10 years experience in accounting or finance
Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply accounting theory
CPA and/or Advanced degree preferred
Strong analytical ability
Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
Strong organization skills
Resistance to stress
Strong PC skills (MS Office, advanced Excel, Oracle, SAP, TMW, TMT, and other financial and accounting software)
