Summary Job Description
The Controller is responsible for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee all operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the company’s goals and objectives
- Oversee month end close ensuring timely and accurate reporting
- Ensure that all monthly bank reconciliations and all balance sheet account reconciliations are completed timely each month
- Oversee Treasury, Payroll, and Accounts Payable functions
- Maintain accounting system, chart of accounts, sub ledgers, and reconciliations between accounting system and subledgers
- Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
- Directly manage accounting team and provide mentoring for team members
- Maintain productive relationships with all members of the management and operations teams
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
- Maintain appropriate insurance coverage
Qualification Requirements
- 8-10+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience required (ideally within a growing middle market company)
- Prior Controller and audit experience required
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles required
- Strong management and leadership skills required
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and tight deadlines simultaneously
- Experience with multi-site healthcare practices and revenue cycle management preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to solve a variety of problems independently
- Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Netsuite and bill.com experience preferred
- Self-starter who is detail oriented, has a sense of urgency and desire to learn, highly self-motivated and committed
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting field required
- CPA preferred
