Controller & Finance Director - The City of Blair, Nebraska

Job Summary

The City of Blair is searching for a City Finance Director to oversee all accounting, payroll, budgeting and finance at a critical time in The City’s growth. This is an exciting opportunity for an analytical, intelligent and detail-oriented accounting professional to make a lasting impact on our community and our organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Roll up your sleeves and take ownership for all aspects of financial accounting, accounts payable / receivable, billing, payroll and audit coordination while leading a small team
• Lead the annual audit process and act as the key liaison with external auditors
• Play a key role in budget preparation in addition to forecasting and financial planning
• Act as a key member of the City leadership team, playing an impact role as the City grows and evolves into the future
• Mentor and coach the accounting team and build a collaborative, productive and positive culture
• Tackle special projects and ad hoc analysis tied to growth opportunities that will impact our citizens for decades into the future

Education

• Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in accounting to successfully perform the job duties and responsibilities.

Experience

• Minimum five years of related experience in accounting or finance including a preference for three years at a managerial level.

Certifications, Licenses and Bonding

• Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) or Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO) certification preferred.
• Must be eligible to successfully complete the bonding process

Work Environment

• Work is performed in a casual, open office environment geared towards collaboration. Business attire may be required for some meetings. All necessary office equipment is provided.
