Job description

Primary Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs, and oversees all aspects of the accounting department (e.g., general accounting, accounts payable, revenue accounting, month-end/period-end close process, financial reporting and analysis, financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, tax compliance, inventory accounting, cost accounting, bank reconciliations, treasury/cash management, internal controls, and various special analyses), ensuring that all financial reporting is accurate, in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and timely.
  • Manages an accounting team of 10+ individuals, ensuring that work is processed and completed timely, properly, and accurately. Provides collaborative leadership and maximizes employee skill development.
  • Performs and manages manual intercompany transactions.
  • Oversees treasury/cash management and helps drive cash flow improvements.
  • Oversees all payments made for debts, bank loans, etc. to ensure compliance with all debt obligations.
  • Ensures reconciliation of all bank accounts and other balance sheet accounts are performed monthly.
  • Performs tasks associated with month-end, period-end, and year-end close, including accurate and timely financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement) for multiple businesses.
  • Presents timely, accurate monthly financial reports for management and stakeholders/partners.
  • Directs accurate recording of capital expenditures and all fixed assets including proper componentization of expenditures. Directs treasury activities to ensure proper processing, utilization, and protection of financial assets.
  • Works with, and is primary liaison for, external auditors; providing information needed for the successful completion of the annual audit and tax returns.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements, regulatory laws, and GAAP.
  • Plays a strategic role as a proactive member of the leadership team on corporate transactions, financing issues, operating performance, and cash flow trends.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

  • Maintain the highest levels of professional decorum and confidentiality.
  • Ability to collaborate with other leaders and improve the bottom line.

Education and Experience

  • 10-year TSA criminal background check.
  • Bachelor of Accounting, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
  • Five years or more of experience in the role of Controller required.
  • Experience in selection and install/implementation of new accounting system software a plus.
  • Restaurant industry experience a plus.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Normal office environment with standard lighting and average noise levels. Work schedule often requires working holidays and weekends.

Prolonged periods sitting at desk working on a computer. Regular/repetitive use of hands and fingers to operate computer components (e.g., keyboard, mouse, etc.). Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds, bend, reach, and squat. May need to stand or walk for extended periods.
