PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
The Controller is a lead position in not only the Accounting and Finance department, but also in the Larkin Street Youth Services organization. The controller will manage all accounting and finance operations including budgeting, auditing, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger and financial reporting. The controller will recommend, develop, and implement appropriate financial systems. The controller will serve as the organization expert in generally accepted accounting principles, internal policies, and procedures.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Administer and maintain Abila MIP accounting system
- Oversee entries into general ledger
- Ensure preparation of monthly financial statements, including statement of activities, statement of financial position, cash forecasting, and board dashboard
- Administer and review all day-to-day accounting functions including A/P, A/R, bank reconciliations, and payroll
- Ensure compliance with public funders
- Oversee annual audit, including 990 preparation
- Preparation of annual agency and department budgets
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee departmental use of Microsoft Teams
- Participate as member of organization’s senior management team
- Understanding of the agency’s mission

PHYSICAL & LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires ability to lift, transfer, push/pull, maneuver, and reposition 25 lbs.

- Ability to speak and write English clearly and accurately
EDUCATION:
- Bachelors in related field (finance, accounting, business). CPA preferred, but not required.
BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook, SharePoint)
- Clear understanding of accounting principles, management accounting methods, government accounting policies, cost allocation procedures and internal control
- Knowledge of GAAP and FASB
- Ability to use experience and judgment to manage goals and projects
- Ability to be a self-starter with follow-through skills
- Demonstrated ability to train, supervise, and lead staff
- At least 5 years financial management experience in a complex organization with multiple (government, private) funding streams.
- Thorough understanding of non-profit accounting
- Experience with Abila (MIP) accounting software preferred, but not required
COMPENSATION:
- Annual Salary Range: $120,000 to $130,000, depending on experience.
