CONTROLLER

Status: EXEMPT – FULL TIME
Job Summary: The Controller is a member of the Clinic’s Sr. Leadership Team and under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer of the Elkhart Clinic. The Controller is responsible for providing the leadership and daily direction for the finance/accounting team. Additionally, the position is responsible for administration of the physician compensation formula and related reporting, retirement plans, managing the Clinic’s banking and debt-related relationships, operating and capital budgets, financial planning, audit, policy, and internal controls, and providing oversight to payroll and tax-related processes.
The Controller will work with the Elkhart Clinic Board, physicians, the executive and administrative teams, and staff to make the Elkhart Clinic the best medical group for providers to practice, the best alternative for patients to receive care, and for staff to work. The role ensures the Clinic has the financial, reporting, budgeting, operational and administrative systems, staff, and planning processes in place to support Clinic’s financial operations and to ensure the financial success of clinic operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
• Oversees and directs all accounting and payroll processes,
• Implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
• Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
• Recommends benchmarks that will be used to measure the company’s performance.
• Produces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to management.
• Provides financial analysis, with emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
• Works with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual audit.
• Files quarterly and annual reports with the appropriate governmental agencies.
• Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
• Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities:
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Proficient in accounting and tax preparation software. • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software. • Experience with SAGE, ADP, and ECW preferred.

Education and Experience • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), preferred. • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field from an accredited university required. • Master’s in Business Administration, preferred. • Ten or more years of experience in Accounting/Finance setting and general accounting knowledge, preferred. • Hospital/Medical facility experience, preferred.
