Controller

Job Summary:

The Controller works directly under the CFO to plan and direct the accounting operations of the Waterloo facility.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Lead a team of approximately 1-2 employees.
• Oversee the operations of the Accounting Department, which include accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and payroll.
• Provide quality checks on work performed and provide feedback as necessary.
• Collaborate with the team to identify ways to improve department effectiveness and implement viable ideas.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implement a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
• Oversee the production of periodic financial reports; ensure that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
• Recommend benchmarks that will be used to measure the company’s performance.
• Provide financial analysis, with an emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
• Work with external accountants and provide needed information annual reviews and tax reporting.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
• Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.

• Proficient in accounting and tax preparation software.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel or similar software including the creation and maintenance of complex formulas and data compilation.
• Proficient in ERP reporting systems including custom reporting development.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
• Ten years or more of related experience preferred.
• Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization’s physical premises.

Working Conditions:

• Must be able to work in conditions that are exposed to loud noise, heavy vibration, dust, exhaust fumes, and around hazardous and/or non-hazardous materials.
