THE OPPORTUNITY
Our client is a fast-growing, consumer packaged goods start-up organization in Los Angeles. This organization places a high value on diversity and is committed to welcoming any and all types of personnel.
As the Controller, reporting to the VP Finance, you will play a key role in establishing accounting policies, leading and scaling the accounting infrastructure, and driving key accounting initiatives. You will lead the accounting function and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the accurate and timely execution of accounting closes, audits, and reporting of results. The Controller will engage in finance transformation, be an effective leader, anticipate and surface issues, solve problems, recommend solutions, and exercise sound business judgement and risk management.
CONTROLLER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and review daily accounting activities, including overseeing the recording of revenue and expenses, billing, general ledger account reconciliations, inventory, revenue recognition, and the month-end close process.
- Ensure the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting for management and U.S. GAAP presentation, including tie-outs to underlying detail, and reporting by product P&Ls.
- Reduce the monthly financial close cycle time.
- Establish and document internal controls and compliance processes, adhering to accounting and regulatory standards.
- Coordinate and execute the production of ad-hoc financial reports.
- Work with the VP Finance to prepare reporting for investors and lenders.
- Evaluate and implement financial tools and systems.
- Evaluate the need for future accounting resources and lead the selection, screening, and hiring of future accounting staff.
- Manage key relationships with vendors and banks.
- Spearhead and lead external financial audits.
- Lead and coordinate tax preparation and filings with CPA firm.
- Support the preparation of annual budget and performance analysis of variances and financial trends.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or relevant field.
- Minimum of 5+ years of overall GAAP accrual-based accounting experience.
- Commutable 3 days a week to Beverly Hills with the ability to come in more often as needed.
- Hands on experience leading and managing accounting initiatives including the improvement of accounting and business processes.
- Financial systems literate, with strong experience in accounting and third party systems.
- Strong Excel (index match, formatting, look ups) abilities and proficiencies with managing large sets of data.
- Experience having led or supported a financial audit.
- Get it done attitude, solutions oriented problem solver.

- Intellectually curious, with a genuine desire and drive to improve the business.
- Able to collaborate effectively across the organization.
- Communicates effectively, both written and orally.
