Job Description
Badger State Western, Inc. a transportation company specializing in the movement of refrigerated, Less-than-Truckload (LTL) shipments from the Mid-West to the Western States and return, is seeking a Controller to perform, inform and guide leadership through the day-to-day operations, preparation of financial statements, ad hoc reporting and the development of budgeting and forecasting models. Qualified candidates will ideally have experience in the transportation industry, excel at communicating effectively with senior management and various departments, understand corporate taxes, be detail-oriented, possess MS Excel knowledge, and be willing to learn. Proven leadership skills and strong business acumen are a must. This position will also be integral in helping the company with future growth plans.
Compensation: $90,000 - $95,000 annual salary (depending on experience). Also, potential quarterly incentive bonus

Responsibilities:- This position is responsible for managing cash flow, A/P, A/R, and completing general ledger accounting, plus monthly and annual close.
- Provide proactive financial analysis, ROI analysis, and recommendations to optimize the financial performance of the company, as well as provide financial reporting and forecasting on a timely basis.
- Ability to work independently as well as working closely with the company’s management team, drivers, office personnel, outside accounting firms, banks, insurance brokers, and other service providers.
- Effectively manage finance staff to meet deadlines with a high level of accuracy.
- Assist with creating budgets and forecasts.
- Create and manage daily ad hoc reporting.
- Assist with customer questions, billing, and collections.
- Reconcile bank statements.
- Work with Payroll & Settlements as well as W-2s. Develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall finance and accounting operations and effectiveness of the organization

- Review the company's accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances.
- Assist in strategic planning initiatives.
- 5-10 years of accountant work experience.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance.
- CPA designation preferred.
- Management/supervisory experience.
- Experience working with multiple companies under a parent company.
- Experience in the Transportation Industry is important.
- Communicate clearly with senior management and other personnel throughout the company.
- Ability to interact professionally, courteously, and tactfully with customers, coworkers, drivers, and vendors.
- Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations, practices, and GAAP.
- Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel) and Transportation Management Systems.
- Deep understanding of Adjusting Journal Entries.
- A keen eye for detail.
- Ability to analyze data and efficiently problem-solve.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
- Protect the organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
