Come join us on our journey to create solutions for a sustainable future! Where the Chemistry Happens...... Control Systems Engineer- Chattanooga, TN This position is responsible for leading DCS, Automation Security, Life Cycle Management, SIS, and Digitalization initiatives for the site.

The Control Systems Engineer will maintain consistent understanding of site, corporate, and industry standards and best practices regarding SIS, NFPA (appropriate NFPA codes) and Automation Security to ensure regulatory compliance. This role will interface with plant engineering, operations, and corporate technical expertise to maintain integrity of the plant’s Control Systems and required documentation. Duties: SIS Fulfill the role of BASF nominated SIS Engineer for the SIS systems at the Chattanooga Polymer Drive Plant.

Maintain a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of applicable BASF SIS Standards. Ensure the functionality of each SIF is maintained and testing requirements are met. Ensure SIS preventative maintenance is properly scheduled and documented.

Record all SIS failures in global database and participate in root cause investigations of AFPDs. Ensure MOCs are written for changes to the system and documentation. Interface with Global Technology for Model Based Safety Concept Design and implement software and hardware changes to the SIS application, including periodic upgrades in the system software.

Maintain plant Safety Requirement Specification documents per corporate SIS standards. Support and provide expertise to plant engineering on all changes that may impact Control Systems and SIS. Assist operations on the safe management of SIS instrument failures and process upsets.

Perform function testing prior to change implementation and validation measures periodically throughout the lifecycle of the system. DCS Fulfill the role of plant Control Systems Engineer for system operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrades. Work with the process engineer to support operations when there are process upsets.

Work with the process engineer to build, maintain, and modify batch recipes. Train maintenance and operators on procedures requiring interaction with the DCS. Design and build control strategies and sequences to provide automation for batch and continuous operations.

Maintain system configurator components and interfaces between PLC, DCS and SIS. Maintain plant AIM Historian – add / delete new block parameters consistent with software and equipment changes. PIMS Serve as local administrator for PIMS system (Aspentech IP21) and provide troubleshooting support Maintain PIMS tags – add / delete new tags consistent with the need for process data.

Generate PIMS graphics to support plant operations and maintenance. Work with BASF technical expertise to maintain the health of the PIMS system. PLC Provide general support for plant PLCs and HMIs Work with plant engineering and maintenance for lifecycle planning and upgrades.

Automation Security Serve as Officer of Automation Security (OAS) for the plant implementing and maintaining Industrial Automation and Control Systems standard. Participate in PSM, RC, and Corporate Audits with respect to Automation and Controls. Perform High Level Risk Assessments (HLRA) and address resulting findings Maintain list of assets using the GANs database Review and approve/reject Tufin Firewall Requests for the DMZ Securely maintain system backups and other confidential information.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalentQualifications: BS Degree in a technical area preferred. BS Degree in Engineering, Science (or related field) is preferred, or applicable on-the-job experience required. Lean and Six Sigma green belt certification required.

If incumbent does not have certification credentials, he/she will be required to obtain yellow belt certification within 6 months of start date, followed by timely certification of green belt. Experience in a manufacturing/business environment required and practical application experience of at least 2 years. Preferred knowledge of installation, operation, maintenance, programming, and configuration of DCS & PLC based Control Systems.

Preferred knowledge of the installation, operation, maintenance, and calibration of chemical process plant instrumentation. Preferred knowledge of PC’s, PC networks, configuration, programming, and troubleshooting. Preferred knowledge of predictive and preventive maintenance processes as related to industrial instrumentation & controls systems.

Comfortable interacting at all levels of the organization. Demonstrated ability to facilitate and/or lead project teams to successful implementation. Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset with emphasis on digitalization and sustainability.
