Located in Westville, NJ, Eagle Point is a 237 MW natural gas-fired power facility that began commercial operation in 1991 as a cogeneration facility providing steam and power to the adjacent refinery. Beginning in 2012, the facility became a full Independent Power Producer serving the PJM market. The facility contains 2 combustion turbine generator sets, one GE Frame 7EA with a ABB Vax and Siemens SST-400 Steam Turbines. 

Opportunity Summary

The Control Room Operator (CRO) is responsible for proper, safe and efficient start-up, operation, shut down and operational maintenance of combustion and steam turbines, and all associated support equipment.  The CRO adheres to all safety, environmental, and reliability requirements to protect employees and the public while meeting generation requirements.  The CRO is responsible for monitoring the status of all plant systems and taking appropriate action responding to alarms, upset conditions, or non-standard operating conditions.

Primary Duties

  • Start-up, operate and shut down combustion and steam turbines and auxiliary equipment
  • Read monitors, meters, gauges, control systems, and devices to record data or verify operating conditions. That includes, but is not limited to temperatures, pressures, flow rates, vibration readings, operating hours, levels, emissions, and operational status.
  • Receive and respond to PJM orders and requests.  Communicate with PJM and the Energy Manager as required.
  • Use OSI PI to monitor, manage, and maintain operating equipment
  • Report safety, environmental, reliability, maintenance, and operational issues on a timely basis as required
  • Inspect and observe equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions, required repairs, adjustments or lubrication
  • Make entries as required in the CRO Log.  Maintain additional operational logs including, but not limited to, LOTO, Safe Work Permit, Jumper, and Confined Space logs and documentation.
  • Read drawings, reference facility operating procedures and read equipment technical manuals to operate, maintain, and repair facility equipment and to ensure equipment is operated within specified tolerances
  • Perform assigned duties in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (MP2)
  • Read, understand and comply with all regulatory procedures and facility requirements including but not limited to safety, environmental and NERC
  • Act as Incident Commander until relieved by management
  • Load and off load shipments following established facility procedure including operating supplies such as hydrogen and water treatment chemicals
  • Prevent spills, properly contain and remediate spills, and properly dispose of spill material
  • Process water through demineralization process and follow established facility procedures.  Ensure that the specifications are maintained through processing.
  • Transfer water as needed to properly and efficiently operate the facility
  • Properly handle and dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with applicable regulations.  Maintain documentation and records required for hazardous materials and disposal.
  • Perform work orders as issued from MP2.  Create work orders and tasks in order to ensure the proper operation and maintenance of the facility.
  • Contact Vendors to obtain quotations, place orders, and arrange shipment of operating supplies, operational procedures, and maintenance activities
  • Initiate purchase requisitions for parts and services as needed
  • Prepare, collect and review plant data/records in support of environmental requirements
  • Participate in plant emergency response, waste minimization, and pollution prevention programs
  • Perform sampling and obtain necessary data to support environmental sampling requirements and reports as required
  • Keep all training requirements and additional learning courses current
  • Follow procedures and policies for inventory control
  • Complete other tasks as requested by the Operations Manager or other plant management

Working Relationships

The CRO reports to the Operations Manager and provides work direction to, as well as performance oversight of the Plant Operators. The CRO may also give direction to maintenance personnel on matters pertaining to plant operations and responds to direction from the Plant Manager in the absence of the Operations Manager.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.  Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection and others must be worn in the performance of some duties.  Work with hazardous materials may be required.

This position requires working twelve hour rotating shifts on the DuPont shift schedule with the possibility of overtime, weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions.

All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Compensation

The initial hourly rate of pay will range from $47.60 - $66.68 based on experience and qualifications.

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school
  • The CRO must obtain a NJ State Engineer’s License Red Seal within a year of being in position 
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to train other employees in efficient and safe operation of facility
  • Flexible coverage capability for dispatches
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals and drawings
  • Ability to detect, diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions
  • Ability to understanding the cause and effect in plant processes and predictive plant operational results
  • Must be multi-task oriented with ability to make expeditious appropriate decisions to non-routine plant operating situations
  • Four years of gas or steam turbine operating experience is desired
  • Experience with turbine control systems
  • Proficient computer skills, including but not limited to MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project, DCS systems, OSI PI and GE turbine control systems
  • Experience with MP2 or similar CMMS
  • Must successfully complete the CRO qualification
  • Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker’s Identification Card (TWIC) and maintain it
  • Valid driver's license required
