Position Summary:
Mathematica is seeking an intern to learn and assist in a range of contract administration services for contracts, subcontracts and agreements according to Mathematica’s contract and Project activities, policies, procedures and systems.
Working in conjunction with the Contracts Team, the intern will learn, observe, and begin performing responsibilities, such as:
- Provide Contract administrative support- drafting, reviewing, interpreting and negotiating contracts, subcontracts, and agreements; interpreting regulations and laws to understand the responsibilities and obligations of the contracting parties; communicating with internal and external customers; maintaining the contract database.
- Engage with subcontractors regarding modifications, funding, schedule, and other project matters.
- Draft contract and subcontract correspondences (e.g., requests for additional funding, requests for modifications, required notices, close-out correspondence, 75%/85% limitation of funding letters).
- Provide guidance and feedback to Project teams relating to monitoring contract and subcontract costs, funding, compliance with terms, interpreting terms, schedules, and completion of milestones.
- Prepare modifications to implement changes to contracts and subcontracts.
- Maintain and update the contract database to ensure it is accurate and to incorporate changes.
- Support internal cross-functional meetings (e.g., Project teams, finance, procurement, legal, and accounting).
- Support internal Contracts team special projects (e.g., intranet refresh, presentation of training materials).n
- Partner with Legal Operations in their support of the Contracts team
- Assist with the preparation and submission of administrative and other reports to federal agencies.
- Provide support to contract negotiations Negotiate contracts in conjunction with the Corporate Legal Counsel and Senior Contract Leadership.
- Additional duties as needed.

Qualifications:
- Enrolled as an undergraduate (senior) or in graduate school
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Detailed oriented
- Strong organizational skills
- Experienced managing competing priorities and ability to efficiently handle multiple tasks and multiple projects
- Ability to work efficiently independently or as part of a group
- Highly motivated, self-directed, strong interpersonal skills
- Experience and interest presenting to small groups
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Exposure to business administration, law, management
- Knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulation (“FAR”)
- Experience with Firm Fixed Price (“FFP”), Time and Material (“T&M”), Cost Reimbursement and Hybrid contract types
- Experience with Requests for Proposals (“RFP”), Request for Quotes (“RFQ”)
- Familiarity with U.S. Government reporting systems such as System for Award Management (“SAM”) and Electronic Subcontracting Report System (“ESRS”)
