Contractor Sales Representative Job Description

 

Job Title: Contractor Sales Representative

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

Department: Sales

Job Summary: The Contractor Sales Representative is responsible for generating sales revenue by promoting and selling products to contractors and trade professionals. This role requires building and maintaining strong relationships with customers, understanding their needs, and providing exceptional service to drive business growth.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position typically does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Building relationships with contractors for the sale of products
  • Product knowledge would be part of training--this knowledge is essential to this position.
  • Setting up accounts with builders
  • Read blueprints and their specifications to prepare product takeoffs and quotes, as well as oversee the production process.
  • Provide technical support and work closely with contractors including Regional Managers, Architects, Contractors, consumers.
  • Identify and prospect new contractor accounts through cold calling, networking, and referrals.
  • Build and maintain relationships with existing contractor customers to drive repeat business and loyalty.
  • Understand customer needs and recommend products or solutions that best fit their requirements.
  • Provide product demonstrations and presentations to customers as needed.
  • Prepare and present quotes, proposals, and bids to customers, negotiating terms and pricing as necessary.
  • Process sales orders accurately and efficiently, ensuring timely delivery and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, such as purchasing, logistics, and customer service, to ensure smooth order fulfillment and resolve any issues or concerns.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and competitor activities to identify opportunities for business growth.
  • Attend trade shows, conferences, and other events to promote products and generate leads.
  • Maintain accurate records of sales activities, customer interactions, and sales performance metrics.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in sales, preferably in a B2B or Contractor Sales environment.
  • Knowledge of construction materials, tools, and equipment preferred.
  • Experience with sales techniques, such as prospecting, lead generation, and closing sales.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel to customer sites, trade shows, and events as needed.
  • Extended periods of standing, walking, and talking to customers.
  • Ability to lift and carry demonstration materials or product samples, up to [insert weight] pounds.
