Position Details:

You will partner to continuously improve the quality of our publications by developing and teaching merchandising publishing guidelines across the organization; maintain quality governance through an editorial lens; and use multiple analytic methods to provide strategic direction on product content presentation across Grainger's different publications. We ask that you have significant presence in discussions about quality with senior leadership, leaning on competencies of building logical, helpful presentations in service of our customers. You will guide merchandising team members to develop and test hypotheses, analyzes customer performance metrics and applies unique insights, and partners with the Grainger Technology Group and others to develop content solutions for an outstanding customer experience.

 

You will report to the Senior Manager, Content Strategy and Operations.

 

You Will:

Develop, Teach  &Embeds Merchandising Presentation Guidelines

  • Understand merchandising principles and our system of content, and work with teams to produce the best customer experience
  • Develop shared language about content and merchandising
  • Facilitate collaboration to ensure content works holistically
  • Guide development and revision of presentation guidelines
  • Ensure guidelines are embedded within Category Review process
  • Manage exceptions with customer lens

Maintain Quality Governance

  • Use guidelines to provide structured feedback to teams throughout Category Review planning process
  • Lead final publication review meeting
  • Provide final approval for publication
  • Be an essential connection point across Merchandising team members

Guide Continuous Quality Improvement & Innovation

  • Help develop and monitor measures to ensure quality—both adherence to guidelines and efficacy of guidelines on customer outcomes
  • Monitor quality performance metrics for aligned desks post-publication (pre/post review)
  • Partner with Merchandising team members to test hypotheses and develop solutions
  • Benchmark competitors to understand landscape
  • Partner with technology group to advocate for Merchandising content solutions, including Publishing reporting needs and Merchandising presentation needs

 

You Have:

BA/BS, MA/MS preferred

  • 7+ years of experience in merchandising, with specific Content Strategy/ editorial/user design experience for customer-facing experiences
  • eCommerce, direct marketing, or catalog experience
  • Working knowledge of digital analytics and user testing
  • Industrial distribution experience
  • Experience translating technical product information to a non-technical eCommerce presentation
  • Experience with workflow software (JIRA or similar)
  • Have clear understanding of content as a business asset
  • Focus on end-to-end solutions and understand how organization works together to accomplish work
  • Can use and develop frameworks to evaluate content and make decisions
  • Can develop hypotheses and use quantitative and qualitative analytics to support or refute them
  • Understand customer needs and the role of useful content
  • Display product curiosity
  • Recognize Merchandising desk-specific nuances while also considering broader assortment patterns
  • Understand industry and latest trends
  • Communicate well both verbally and textually
  • Foster strong continuous improvement mindset
  • Has editorial lens and global content editing ability
  • Understand and can develop principles and guidelines
  • Use data to guide discussion
  • Push peer and leadership thinking
