Job Title: Construction Services Project Manager
Location: Corporate
Department: Real Estate
Job Summary:
The Construction Services Project Manager supports the Construction Services team through the management of select vendors, procurement of owner supplied items, and implementation of design standards relative to our buildings and systems. The role will have a focus on MEP/R, Engineering, Fuel Systems, and Architectural services. The role also provides quality control on projects as they transition through Engineering and Store Design into the construction process flow. In addition, this role serves as the innovation support for the team, identifying and testing new approaches, tools, and technologies.
Principal Duties:
  • Support the overall construction and preconstruction process from design through execution. Drive quality, evolve design, provide best value, and implement change for continuous evolution of our store systems.
    • Provide technical support for design of total building system performance at optimal efficiency for all building prototypes.
    • Support the development and maintenance of specifications and designs.
    • Create and support value engineering initiatives while maintaining high quality standards and ensuring product availability to support the overall build plan.
    • Assist with design changes for the construction team, coordinating with the Construction Services Specialists. Issue key communications necessary to roll out changes and lead training and education efforts.
    • Track metrics and methodology for testing, analysis, refinement, selection, and specification for new designs.
    • Ensure proper execution in the field along with review of maintenance requirements for our Facilities partners.
    • Solicit ongoing feedback post rollout and provide communication to the organization regarding results.
    • Assist with providing technical guidance for Strategic Sourcing and Enterprise Productivity to define and develop specifications for the RFI/RFP/RFQ process. Provide recommendations during vendor selection process.
  • Support the vendor management program for new stores by collaborating with business partners to achieve key strategic programs.
    • Provide forecasting and recommendations for vendor programs to anticipate and address gaps and opportunities to support ongoing and new projects. Anticipate changes due to industry conditions and adjust schedules and needs accordingly.
    • Support and lead regularly scheduled reviews with key vendors to ensure that Wawa’s standards for quality, cost control, safety, and schedule are in place on every project across our chain.
    • Develop a vendor scorecard program to ensure that installations and materials are of the highest quality in the industry. Promote quality focused initiatives, in conjunction with Facilities.
    • Provide technical support and participate in the negotiations for existing and new vendors.
  • Support collaboration and partnership across the organization by initiating opportunities to solicit and respond to the ongoing needs of our partners.
    • Participate in regularly scheduled meetings, project site visits, or through actual problem resolution needs. Opportunities could include process changes, new material testing and implementation, and/or educational needs.
    • Create and support a centralized model to support the strategic initiatives by developing tools, processes, and guidance for Project Managers in the field. Identify critical needs by collaborating with Strategic Sourcing and Enterprise Productivity to troubleshoot vendor issues and provide alternate solutions to support forecast.
    • Perform regularly scheduled field inspections and design reviews of projects under construction. Provide assistance relative to direction, problem solving, design support and feedback to the Construction Project Managers and General Contractors.
    • Support more efficient decision making by managing a benchmarking database across retail partners to identify “best in class” practices and make recommendations based on findings.
  • Provide project management for special projects and alternate fuel initiatives as needed.
  • Provide new store and special project preconstruction and bid support as needed.
  • Review and process invoices as necessary.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in Commercial Construction Project Management and/or Engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of construction disciplines/techniques and drawings/specifications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; knowledge of design software is a plus.
