What you can expect:

Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. (GHA) seeks an experienced Construction Resident Engineer to join our growing Construction and Survey Division team in our Vernon Hills office. This is a full-time exempt level position in a collaborative environment and a comprehensive benefits program. We seek coachable and motivated professionals who demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills and who can manage a variety of public and private market clients. The successful applicant should be able to work independently or in a team environment and can immediately begin to demonstrate construction engineering and management skills with limited oversight. The ability to successfully and proactively determine and solve construction-related problems is crucial.

How you will make an impact:

• Serve as the lead on-site project representative performing engineering and related duties associated with construction inspection and layout to ensure compliance with the Contract Documents.
• Read, interpret, and comprehend engineering plans and contract specifications.
• Perform construction contract administration, project documentation, and manage contract close-out of projects.
• Attend and lead project meetings.
• Supervise, train, and mentor support staff.
• Communicate with GHA Project Manager(s) and clients on a continuous basis.
• Assist engineering staff in the preparation and production of engineering designs, plans, contract specifications, and construction project cost estimates.

What you will bring to Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or engineering technical field.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Illinois preferred.
• IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities Certification.
• Valid US driver’s license.

Experience:

• 5+ years of construction management or related experience
• Be proficient in Microsoft Office suite

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Clearly and concisely communicate both orally and in writing.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills and excellent leadership skills
• Working knowledge and experience with state and local regulations
