Location: Chicago Area

We are an experienced Federal General Contractor in the Chicago area seeking to hire an experienced Lead Estimator to join our growing team. Projects range in size from $1 million to $10 million with a duration of one to two years. The candidate will have the overall responsibility as part of the Preconstruction Department on taking the lead on multiple individual projects during the budgeting and subcontract bidding phases of those projects. The ideal candidate for this role would be able to work under very tight time frames handling multiple bids and responsibilities simultaneously. This position can be remote if the candidate has the right skillset and work ethic to be successful at their responsibilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Review and analyze drawings, specifications, proposals, scope of work, and other documents to accurately create a budget proposal to the client.
• Prioritize and organize deadlines for bidding requirements.
• Create, submit, and track pre-bid RFIs.
• Create bid forms to receive subcontractor proposals.
• Identify labor, material, costs, and time requirements.
• Level subcontractor proposals to establish the correct budget.
• Coordinate with the project team to establish appropriate allowances in the budget for work not completely clear on the bidding documents.
• Perform quantity take-offs to review with subcontractors to confirm accurate scope.
• Solicit subcontractors for proposals to ensure competitive pricing is established.
• Identify risk issues and their order of magnitude for projects.
• Represent the company on pre-bid walk-throughs to obtain pertinent information to execute an accurate proposal with existing conditions and owner’s requirements.
• Participate in the transfer of projects after award to the project managing team.

DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Proven ability to create a complete proposal for commercial construction projects.
• Understanding of Request for Proposal (RFP) and assisting in the complete response
• Experience with Onscreen Take-Off preferred.
• Prior experience with Building Connected preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 is required.
• Healthcare estimating experience preferred but not required.
• Must have excellent communication skills and a natural ability to work in a fast-paced and growing environment.
• Must be self-sufficient, detail oriented, and highly organized and a team player.
• Must have the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
• Service oriented.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management or engineering.
• 7-10 years’ experience in estimating in health care, military, or federal contracts.
• Strong computer skills.
