Job Description Summary
Flagger/Common Laborer are responsible for directing the actions of motoring and pedestrian traffic for their safety as well as the safety of the work crew. This position may also perform a variety of manual duties and tasks on multiple projects.
Essential Functions
· Discusses traffic plans and type and location of control points with superior.
· Lift, carry and place traffic cones/signs to ensure the safety of the work zone.
· Hold a Stop/Slow paddle upright in conjunction with appropriate verbal and non-verbal communications with drivers.
· Must constantly be aware of both the construction and traffic activity taking place around them.
· Warns construction/utility workers when approaching vehicle fails to heed signals to prevent accident and injury to workers.
· Directs drivers through designated detour routes and records license number of traffic control violators for law enforcement.
· Works as assigned by the Supervisor to assist skilled craft workers in performing their assigned duties.
· Performs a variety of routine, non-machine tasks such as removing/ cleaning concrete forms, filling expansion joints, rigging/ sorting/ cleaning jobsite materials, cleaning up project site, and various other non-skilled tasks.
· Attendance required according to company attendance policy to ensure crew is able to operate at normal proficiency level.
· Follow company and state guidelines for effective, safe and well-managed work zones.
Required Skills and Experience
· Prior construction or field experience is preferred but not required.
· Must have strong verbal communication skills, ability to read and write.
· Complete and abide by all Safety Training and other provided training.
· Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
Competencies
· Employee must be able to work without direct supervision.
· Ability to multi-task, good organizational skills, and able to work with minimal supervision.
· Must have a strong commitment to jobsite safety.
· Diligent in demonstrating safe work practices.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days of work are normally Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; however, evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Hours of work are determined by the supervisor based on deadlines set by the client.
Travel
Travel to the jobsites is expected for this position.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee up to and over 2/3 of time at work. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Some equipment can be extremely heavy and will require a lot of strength to move or manipulate. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to quickly respond appropriately to unexpected events.
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions, rough and uneven surfaces, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
