WHAT YOU’LL BE CHALLENGED TO DO:
Provide entry level support for our Railroad/Construction Resident Engineer that consists of field inspection, material testing, documentation of activities and quantities, review the plans and specifications, report writing, cost estimates, project closeout process, and other related tasks. Therefore, we are looking for a highly motivated individual that can effectively communicate with clients, contractors, and public and project staff. The successful candidate must have experience in railroad related construction including general civil and site development, utilities, track work, and bridge construction.
The candidate must be highly motivated and is expected to have good communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as possess good organizational skills and a willingness to take on new challenges. The candidate should have the ability to apply a common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form. The candidate would be expected to work occasional overtime to complete special tasks and meet program objectives.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (OTHERS MAY BE INCLUDED):
- Report to Railroad/Construction Resident Engineer and Program Manager and/or the Owner’s QA Management Team to assist on various tasks
- Research plans, specification, material testing procedures and local agency requirements
- Periodic visits to project sites to inspect and document field work performed
- Preparation of technical reports
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
- Review construction contract documents for overall understanding of the project and for constructability concerns.
- Provide observation and inspection of the construction work and contractor operations to verify that the construction is accomplished in accordance with the plans and specifications.
- Provide assistant liaison functions related to coordination of contractors, utilities, developers, other agencies and property owners engaged or affected by the project
- Participate in utility meetings with all affected utilities and verify relocation schedules. Coordinate and document the relocation of existing utilities, and make sure they are not relocated into a new conflicting location.
- Prepare and maintain daily and periodic documentation and records throughout the project necessary to verify progress, quantities, materials documentation, measurement and computation of pay items, pay estimates, change orders, and other authorized plan and/or contract adjustments
