Job Description
Naperville's Water Utility consists of more than 1250 miles of main, serving approximately 44,000 customers in Naperville and in Warrenville (for their wastewater only). Within a territory area of 39 square miles, we serve a population of 163,000+. The Water Utility is known as a leader and innovator in asset renewal, sanitary sewer rehabilitation and maintenance activities.

We have a career opportunity for a Water Main Construction Inspector. This role will be responsible for the construction management of Water Main Capital Improvement projects, as well as the inspection of wastewater treatment, lift station and pump station rehabilitation projects. This position may also provide technical support to engineering staff, including surveying, preparation of construction plans, specifications, and bid documents.
Duties

• Inspect and document work performed by contractors for quality, accuracy, and adherence to project specifications.
• Review project submittals and ensure only approved materials are incorporated into construction projects.
• Monitor and enforce safety procedures and practices on the job site.
• Measure and document contract quantities for payment.
• Review and approve contractor payment requests.
• Maintain files of contracts and documents related to Water Main Construction.
• Communicate with stakeholders, including contractors, project managers, engineers, residents, and utility companies, regarding construction progress, issues and solutions.
• Conduct final inspections and prepare punch list for completion of outstanding items.
• Supervise Civil Engineering summer interns on capital improvement projects.
• Extensive field work and frequent travel to City facilities and job sites.

Qualifications
Required:

• Minimum of five (5) years' experience managing the construction of Water Main installations from a water utility perspective.
• Ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision.
• Basic knowledge of engineering theory.
• A valid Illinois Class D Driver's License and a good driving record

Preferred:

• Experience working on projects located in congested commercial and residential locations.
• Ability to meet the needs of residents impacted by construction in a friendly, responsive, and professional manner.
• Experience inspecting the installation or rehabilitation of sanitary sewers.
• Associate's degree or comparable education with a focus in Construction Management or Engineering Technology.
• Lift/pump station inspection experience.
• Experience in AutoCAD.
