Job Summary
The Construction Inspector is responsible for:
Overseeing outside contractor crews installing gas facilities and third-party inspectors
Collaborating with other departments (i.e. Sales, Engineering, Operations, Environmental and Safety)
Completing electronic pay sheets and work orders, and handling any inquiries, comments, compliments, and/or complaints made by the public, municipalities and state
Giving quotes for regulated facility relocation projects
Handling Department of Transportation right-of-way issues
Previewing service and main projects for readiness to minimize nonproductive jobsite visits
Coordinating with company crews, and researching all inquiries and/or potential conflicts with gas facilities, such as, lowering/raising and/or relocating main, services, farm taps, etc.
There are three (3) positions which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidates' education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Two (2) positions report to the South Durham Operations Center in Durham, North Carolina.
- One (1) position reports to the Chapel Hill Operations Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
There are three levels to this position (Construction Inspector I, II, III).
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Construction Inspector I - 1-2 years of construction/maintenance-related experience
Construction Inspector II - 2+ years of experience as Construction Inspector I, or equivalent experience
Construction Inspector III - 4+ years of experience as Construction Inspector II, or equivalent experience
Applicant must have obtained or can obtain Operator Qualification required for position.
Knowledge of fusion equipment, construction equipment and common hand/power tools.
The ability to create as built drawings of construction projects.
A demonstrated knowledge of the Company's Operating and Maintenance procedures, Department of Transportation 192 and safety procedures is also highly desired.
Applicants must have the ability to communicate professionally and effectively in varying situations with business partners, customers, and contractors.
Must be able to demonstrate self-motivation by showing the ability to work independently as well as part of a diverse team
Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
Experience directing the work of others.
Must have the ability to prioritize the workload and manage multiple projects.
Knowledge of basic math.
Knowledge of and ability to use personal computer, mobile devices and Microsoft Office software (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Skill in relating interpersonally with internal and external customers.
Skill in operation of pipeline locator.
Must be willing and able to work overtime, as assigned.
Heavy lifting up to 50 lbs. independently.
