JOB OVERVIEW
As an employee of Sarpy County, you receive regular pay for the services you provide at a rate of $26.37 per hour. In addition to your hourly wage, Sarpy County provides benefits, such as insurance and retirement, which are valued at up to $28,461.89 per year.
GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the general supervision of the Project Administrator or designee, performs a variety of skilled technical work inspecting construction projects based on applicable codes and standards, requiring considerable responsibility and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspect construction and improvement work to ensure work conforms to plans, standards, specifications, special requirements, codes and regulations.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, law enforcement, contractors, vendors, other agencies and the general public.
Issue correction notices or approvals based on results of inspections.
Inspect and approve construction and installation of streets, curb, gutter, sidewalk, storm drains, sewers, water lines, water meters, hydrants, service lines, fire lines, cross connection control devices and related utilities and structures as assigned.
Inspect to ensure compliance with local, State or Federal standards for any right-of-way, highway and road use.
Provide information and respond to inquiries from contractors, property owners, staff and the general public regarding assigned projects.
Compile information and prepare construction reports as required.
Research records plans, survey maps, and other design data pertaining to the field operations on road projects.
Identify resources needed, and communicate needs to the Project Administrator. Resources include, but are not limited, plan preparation, acceptance testing, and evaluation of field conditions, design changes, and reports.
Review field notes, tests conducted (and results), and progress estimates (e.g. monthly and final) with the Project Administrator and County Engineer.
Attend field meetings on project(s) progress.
Record activities on daily log for project documentation.
Respond to inquiries from contractors, developers, property owners, staff, and the general public.
Check for proper use and placement of traffic control devices to ensure compliance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), compiling data for reporting purposes.
Perform work in accordance with safety policies and procedures.
Report to assigned worksite with regular, predictable, and consistent attendance.
Peripheral Duties
Review field staking and makes revisions within scope of authority.
Serve as a member of various committees as assigned.
Perform other duties as directed and assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Associate's Degree* in construction management, engineering technology, civil engineering, or project management required.
Two (2) years of bona fide work experience in a position responsible for construction inspection, quality control for street/utilities, or project management required; work experience with managing public works projects preferred.
*Approved work experience beyond that required which provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered and substituted for the stated education
Special Requirements
Must have and maintain throughout employment a valid Driver's License, as well as meet eligibility requirements of "acceptable driver standards" as defined by the County.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of public works inspection methods
Working knowledge of applicable laws, standards and regulations relating to construction, inspection, safety and traffic control
Working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations impacting departmental functions, including but not limited to Nebraska DOT Specifications, and City of Omaha specifications for Highway and Public Works Cosntruction projects
Some knowledge of survey, drafting and construction principles, practices and methods as applicable to a municipal setting
Considerable skill in reading and interpreting construction drawings, plans, and specifications
Effective communication skills
Skill in planning, organizing, and implementation work processes
Skill in applying material testing procedures
Ability to perform required mathematical computations
Ability to effectively communicate complex technical information, orally and in writing, to contractors, developers, property owners, employees, consultants, other governmental agency representatives, County officials and the general public
Ability to prepare, organize, and maintain inspection and engineering field and office data, reports, and systems
Ability to tactfully and respectfully interact with a diverse population
Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Ability to manage and maintain confidential and sensitive information
Ability to work under pressure and/or frequent interruptions
