G.A. West & Co. is seeking a Civil/Concrete Estimator for a full-time position in Birmingham, AL. Details below!
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop self-perform cost estimates
• On Design-Build projects, develop complete budgets from conceptual scope/design by “filling in the blanks” and making reasonable assumptions
• Review project documents to identify risk elements and develop mitigation strategies
• Review project documents to identify value engineering alternatives, where applicable
• Solicit and coordinate with vendors to price and procure commodities, specialties, and fabrication
• Perform productivity analysis for estimates along with constructability input
• Evaluate and make recommendations on escalation and contingency
• Perform historical comparisons of quantities and cost data between projects for presentation to management
• On Construction Management (CM) projects, develop a basis of estimate narrative
• Reconcile current estimates to previous historical production units and basis for same
• Develop clarifications and exclusions list to communicate basis of pricing
• Support the development of project schedules and provide budgeted man-hours for construction activity resource loading
• Develop subcontractor and vendor bid/procurement strategy
• Coordinate bid efforts, process RFI’s, and interface with the bidding community
• Evaluate subcontractor and vendor cost estimates and proposals
• Manage multiple pursuit and/or preconstruction efforts concurrently
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering and/or other related discipline required
• 1-5+ years of relevant industry-related experience required
• In-depth knowledge of construction principles and practices required
• Experience with various types of mechanical process and utility industries such as petrochemical, pharmaceutical, power, high purity systems, wastewater, food and beverage, etc., required
• Proven experience managing large-scale projects with emphasis on highly complex industrial projects required
Preferred:
• Experience and expertise in one or multiple disciplines: Civil, Concrete, Structural
• Experience with Timberline or related estimating software preferred
• Experience and knowledge in developing logic driven project schedules and execution plans
• Hands-on field experience preferred
