About You and this Role
The Construction EH&S Technologist is responsible for the Field Execution Technology Group's (FETG) EH&S performance on all large projects in North America. This role works closely with Construction Managers, Staff Augmentation Contractors and Execution Contractors to drive EH&S excellence on our projects. This role aligns to the Technical Expertise & Support (TES) Safety Expertise Center, which is within the Field Execution Technology Group (FETG).
Large Projects are defined by a Total Installed Cost (TIC) value of $10 million or greater. This role supports both retrofit projects as well as Green Field / Brown Field (GF/BF) projects. The role works closely with Construction Managers and the NA Large Projects Sr. EH&S Delivery Manager to ensure Dow's EH&S management systems and project safety activity plans are implemented on the project. The EH&S Technologist provides in the field coaching and leadership on EH&S activities / issues. This role has domestic travel across the United States and occasional international travel to Canada. Primary home locations for this role are, Freeport TX, Houston TX, Seadrift TX, and Plaquemine LA.
Responsibilities

  • Focal point for project EH&S disciplines (i.e. Environmental, IH, Personal Safety, Process Safety etc.)
  • Audits contractor performance against the EH&S Management Plans / Contractor Safety Activity Plans for the project.
  • Coordinate and optimize EH&S programs across active projects.
  • Participate and lead incident investigations and corrective action process.
  • Initiates and supports changes to the TSEC / FETG EH&S Management Systems, EH&S Standards and or policies by use of Dow's Management Of Change (MOC) process
  • Analyzes North America large project EH&S data (i.e. Safety Observations, BBP, Near Miss) for trends and provides coaching back to the project EH&S team and construction managers.
  • Coach and train staff augmentation contractors as necessary to meet the expectations of the Construction EH&S program / Project EH&S Management Plans.
  • Perform Safety Field Walks / Observations on all large projects in execution. Provides feedback to project construction managers and EH&S staff.
  • Assist Construction Managers in creating EH&S staffing requirements for their projects.
  • Administrator for the Green Field /Brown Field EH&S SharePoint content.
  • Determine Greenfield & Brownfield applicability for projects.

Requirements
  • A minimum of a high school diploma/GED.
  • A minimum of 5 years of EH&S experience in construction, maintenance, operations, or turnarounds.
  • Travel Requirements: domestic travel and infrequent international travel to support large construction projects.
  • A current, valid US Driver's License.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Skills
  • Certified Safety Professional.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work comfortably and safely at elevated heights. Candidates must be familiar with, or willing to undergo training in, the proper usage and maintenance of safety equipment to ensure safe movement and operations at heights.
