Job Summary:
The Lead, Histology Technologist is responsible for assisting in the oversight of processes, documentation, workflow and problem solving in the histology department.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Serve as master trainer.
- Perform competency assessments.
- Serves as an escalation point to resolve issues.
- Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specification.
- Participate in regulatory agency inspection readiness and onsite inspections.
- Perform equipment validation, reagent optimization and validation following regulatory guidelines and procedures.
- Report monthly metrics.
- Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Perform grossing, embedding, microtomy, and staining of patient samples.
- Maintain proficiency and competency in performance for the testing menu of the department.

Education and Experience
- Associates Degree in laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an
accredited institution, OR
- At least 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited institution that include:
- 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, or 24 semester hours of
science courses that include 6 hours of chemistry; 6 hours of biology and 12 semesters
hours of chemistry, biology, OR
- Medical laboratory technology in any combination and have laboratory training in
either: completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by
ABHES, CAHEA, HHS and at least 3 months documented training in each specialty
in which the individual performs high complexity testing, OR
- Grandfathered exception (42 CFR 493.1489 and 1491).
