Work at the Conservatory Library Circulation Desk, aiding patrons in navigating the library facility and its holdings, as well as engaging in circulation of library materials and completing special tasks as assigned.
Over the course of training with library staff, you will become fluent in using both Library of Congress and Dewey Decimal classification systems. You will also learn the ins and outs of the library catalog, circulation software, and collection navigation. You will use this knowledge to assist library patrons in your front-line service position at the circulation desk.
This position requires a minimum commitment of 4 hours per week, and will begin in the Fall 2024 semester, with training taking place either during late Spring 2024, summer break, or as early in the semester as possible. Possible shifts include evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities
- See to circulation of the general collection, as well as Reserve and Audiovisual items
- Assist patrons with library copiers, printers and equipment
- Enforce library policies and procedures
- Maintain an excellent customer-service attitude in dealing with patrons
- Keep up-to-date on Conservatory Library policies and instruction in the form of staff training, audio/visual information sources, and online/local documentation
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Must be a current or incoming Oberlin College or Conservatory student.
Required: Must be reliable and punctual. Must provide considerate and courteous service to patrons/staff. Must be attentive to detail and receptive to library communications.
This position requires you to occassionally lift up to 25lbs. from the floor to waist-height, pushing book carts up to 45lbs., use a computer during the entirety of your shift, and sit for long periods of time.
Desirable: Work Study award and previous customer service experience.
