The expected ENTRY pay range for this position based on experience and equity within the Judicial Branch is $22.50 to $25.67.
This position in non-exempt under the FLSA.

About the Position
The Conference Officer (Floater) plays a vital role in supporting the Family Court Department of the Superior Court by facilitating conferences and utilizing mediation and negotiation skills to establish, modify, and enforce court orders in compliance with statutory and local rule requirements.
The Conference Officer (Floater) must be able to travel to any Superior Court location for coverage assignments as directed by the Family Department Supervisors, Team Lead, or Administrators. These assignments will be based on the needs of the department and may be varied in duration (i.e., one day, one week and/or several months).
Standard Judicial Branch business hours are Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. After a probationary period, this position may allow for a telework schedule dependent on the needs of the Judicial Branch.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in any field

Experience:
  • One (1) year of legal, family services, or child support establishment/enforcement experience;

OR
  • Certification of completion of a Legal Assistant program from an ABA accredited school;

OR
  • Successful completion of the Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) examination and documentation of current CLA status.

Other Requirements:
  • The Conference Officer shall be required to attend and successfully complete, forty (40) hours of certified basic mediation training within six (6) months of hire.
  • Must have a valid Arizona driver's license or the ability to obtain one at the time of hire

Our Preferred Candidate has:
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Human Services, or a related field
  • Certification in family law mediation training
  • Experience working with the Alternative Dispute Resolution

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
  • Alternative dispute resolution systems and techniques, including mediation and negotiation skills
  • Applicable family law statutes and rules of civil procedure
  • State and federal laws, regulations and rules pertaining to counseling, mediation, and negotiation
  • Legal research methods and techniques
  • Court processes, procedures, and operations

Skill in:
  • Conflict resolution and establishing/maintaining interpersonal relationships
  • Creating, composing, and editing written materials
  • Performing complex numerical calculations
  • The use of personal computers and related software applications.

Ability to:
  • Read and interpret statutes, laws, rules and regulations
  • Communicate orally and in writing

ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS
(This is not an all-inclusive list of all job duties that may be required; employees will be required to perform other related duties as assigned.)
  • Conducts conferences using mediation strategies and negotiation skills to promote full agreements between parties.
  • Uses knowledge, experience, the application of child support guidelines, court rules/statutes, and applicable case law to assist the parties in reaching agreements in a conference setting.
  • Mediates and drafts stipulations and corresponding orders for the Court's review and signature.
  • Prepares reports which indicate the parties' positions and agreements based on the information obtained during the conference.
  • Researches and interprets support orders, parent-child access orders, and financial information including medical benefits, income statements, tax returns, self-employment tax returns, parenting time orders, credit reports, medical billings and invoices, and legal cases.
  • Calculates, modifies, and enforces support and support arrears in a conference setting with parties present.
  • Maintains and promotes positive, professional, and interpersonal relationships with the court, judicial staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Responds to inquiries from the public, court staff, and judicial staff.
  • Specializes in the application and interpretation of the Arizona Child Support Guidelines.
  • Testifies in Court as requested or subpoenaed.

Working conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak clearly and hear; see details of objects that are less than a few feet away; sit for long periods of time; stand, walk, use hands to finger handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and occasionally push, pull or lift up to 20 pounds. Must be able to travel to any Superior Court for coverage assignments as directed by the Family Department Supervisors, Team Lead, or Administrators as dictated by the needs of the department. These assignments will be of varied duration (i.e., one day, one week and/or several months).
