Position Summary

Berkshire’s Compliance Internship Program provides business or law school students an enriched experience with hands-on opportunities through projects and real-life situations.  We are searching for an assertive, confident, and enthusiastic Compliance Intern for our Boston, MA headquarters.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Under the general direction of the Chief Compliance Officer, the Compliance Intern will support the Compliance function in Berkshire’s Enterprise Risk Management Group.  The Compliance Intern will work part time and assist with managing a database of investor legal provisions, completing various regulatory filings, administration of Berkshire's code of ethics, slide preparation and participation in committee meetings as needed, recordkeeping and documentation of processes, testing of compliance policies and internal controls and other ad-hoc legal and compliance projects and tasks as requested.

The opportunity would be a 16-month commitment that would involve part time (approximately 20 hours/week) for the 2024 spring semester (January – May), 40 hours per week during the summer (May - August) and continuing part time (approximately 20 hours/week) after the summer ends (September – April).

At the end of the summer, the intern will prepare and deliver a presentation to Berkshire’s Senior Leadership Team summarizing a project or key task they have been working on at Berkshire, the insights they gained through their internship experience, and any recommended process enhancements.

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Interest in securities laws, financial sector compliance, financial services, corporate governance, enterprise risk management, and real estate
  • Ability to commit to the 16-month schedule outlined above
  • Prior experience in real estate or investment management is a plus
  • Ability to present findings to senior leadership
  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Detail oriented and organized
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent customer service and collaboration skills
  • Objective thinking skills
  • Have an aptitude for learning and be comfortable working in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to communicate and work with different departments throughout Berkshire

Technical/ Educational Requirements:

  • Current student pursuing either a business degree (entering senior year undergrad or currently pursuing graduate degree) or JD (current 2L preferred)
  • Strong analytical skills and legal research skills preferred
  • Experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook or similar programs
