Job description

Job Purpose
The Compliance Engineer is an integral part of engineering and product development operations. This role supports the development and production of off-road equipment for the global market. The Compliance Engineer will report industry standards and regulatory information to the Finn Engineering team and develop Finn corporate positions, policies, and design standards on those topics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)
  • Achieve product and engineering compliance by developing and executing compliance programs and completing documentation.
  • Prevent compliance issues by collaborating with engineering design teams, reviewing design data, and developing compliance policies.
  • Develops compliance plans by researching, analyzing, selecting, and applying Compliance Engineering concepts, approaches, techniques, and criteria.
  • Organize compliance programs by preparing timetables, cost estimates, and required resources, including test laboratories and equipment.
  • Research, contract with, and supervises, sub-contractors as required.
  • Determine compliance by establishing compliance test standards, conducting, and witnessing tests, performing diagnostic procedures, measuring performance, analyzing and evaluating findings, and performing forensic analysis and troubleshooting of failures.
  • Document compliance by completing approval applications, recording test results, preparing investigative reports, preparing, and filing Declarations of Conformity, and maintaining compliance database.
  • Prepares compliance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing measurement data and trends.
  • Lead compliance reviews of NPD projects by reviewing the machines to the applicable standards, regulations, and product compliance requirements.
  • Track new and ongoing standards and regulations for their impact on Finn Corporation products and business.
  • Lead development of internal design standards and processes in support of product compliance.
  • Mentor and educate other Finn employees on product compliance and regulatory implications.
  • Oversee and lead reviews of owners/operator’s manuals, product labelling, and other product literature to meet the most current industry practices and standards.
  • Attend industry meetings/conferences, including groups such as: ASABE, SAE, OPEI, ISO, AEM, US EPA, CARB, etc. Provide summary reports and recommended actions to Finn leadership team.
  • Advise the Finn leadership team with standards and regulatory information, status, and impacts.
Education and Experience
  • 4-year Engineering or compliance related degree with a minimum of five years of related experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge and experience dealing with regulatory bodies such as US EPA, OSHA, CARB, DOT, NHTSA, CE, UKCA, REACH, RoHS, etc.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in off-road or other mobile machinery design and/or compliance.
  • Must be able to work independently and anticipate requirements of many different people in fast-paced, cross-functional, international environment.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate Finn equipment.
  • Knowledge and ability to use test equipment and tools.
  • May require mechanical skills in equipment assembly, repair, and ability to read schematics.
  • Experience with off-road mobile or agricultural machinery, diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulics, electric powered vehicles, vocational trucks a plus.
  • Ability to provide accurate, professional, and error-free documents in a timely manner.
  • Able to effectively work collaboratively with engineering team and other functional groups.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.
Supervisory Responsibilities
No internal direct reports. Directs the work of external resources.
Work Environment
Manufacturing and office environment. Exposure to noise, fumes, and dust, while in the manufacturing facility.
Physical Demands
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard, and to verbally communicate to exchange information. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in office settings and moderate to loud in other situations, with both constant and sudden loud noises possible. Works indoors most of the time. Works somewhat close to other people, such as when sharing office space.
