Job Summary:
We are looking for a Complex Claim Specialist, experienced in handling homeowners, dwelling fire, and a small book of commercial claims, to join our Liability Claims division.
The Complex Claim Specialist will be responsible for handling the company’s most complex liability and coverage claims within company guidelines and standards. Responsibilities include the ability to analyze coverage and contractual matters, investigate and evaluate serious injury and/or property damage claims for proper claim adjudication.
This is a remote position. Our customers are located in the Northeast, so a candidate living in the Northeast is preferred but not required.
What you will do:
- Investigate, evaluate, and negotiate settlements while applying technical knowledge and skills to effect fair and prompt resolution of cases.
- Adjust reserves and provide recommendations to ensure reserving activities are consistent with corporate policies.
- Effective communication of reserve and reinsurance notices and reports.
- Communicate promptly and professionally with all parties when answering questions and gathering claim information.
- Adhere to company service standards and claims handling guidelines.
- Effectively manage and control litigation and claim expenses (Budgets, Experts and claim strategies).
- Confer and direct legal counsel on claims requiring litigation, attend mediations, arbitrations and/or trials when necessary.
- ISO claim input and reporting.
- Knowledge of Medicare Reporting guidelines and Medicare Set Aside qualifications.
- Resolve claims within designated authority level.
- Prepare reports to be submitted to management for additional authority or coverage issues and present large claims to management with supporting documentation.
- Present cases and participate in their discussion at weekly claim unit meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management and mentor less experienced staff.
What you will bring:
- Four-year college degree required.
- 15+ years’ experience managing and handling managing and handling Commercial General Liability, Homeowners and Dwelling Fire claims at an insurance carrier or Third-Party Administrator.
- Must be licensed in all states in which Kingstone polices are written (preferred).
- Continued insurance education and/or designations.
- A thorough technical understanding of insurance coverage and claim procedures.
- A strong team player with initiative and ability to effectively multi-task.
- Must communicate professionally with excellent verbal and written skills.
- Computer skills with working knowledge of company software programs.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
- Some travel may be required to attend meetings, trials, mediations, or other legal proceedings.
- Valid driver’s license (preferred).
- Good negotiation and settlement skills.
