DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Houston Health Department has an exciting opportunity for a Community Relations Specialist to function as a liaison between the community and the Houston Health Department, providing reference and referral services and information assistance.
The ideal candidate will:
  • Complete daily and weekly meal and transportation count
  • Build partnerships with community agencies in order to secure volunteer presenters and complete weekly volunteer presentation form.
  • Complete volunteer forms for participants who assist with daily activities of the program.
  • Complete daily roster of participants attendance
  • Complete intake forms
  • Complete consumer calls as needed.
  • Complete change of status as needed.
  • Plan and Oversee field trips.
  • Complete incident reports
  • Complete fire drills monthly
  • Complete monthly report and calendar of events
  • Collect required program income (such as donations by participants monthly)
  • Other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or a GED.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six (6) months of experience are required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Valid Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2).
PREFERENCES
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
Preference will be given to applicants with two years of experience working with seniors or closely related field.
