gener8tor is a nationally recognized startup accelerator as well as an entrepreneurial support organization. Bronze Valley is a non-profit, early stage venture investment platform that supports high growth, innovation and technology-enabled companies created by diverse, underrepresented and underestimated founders. We are seeking a Community Manager to support our gener8tor Alabama activities and Birmingham office.
We are looking for ambitious community advocates whose hunger to support entrepreneurs, connect with mentors and investors, and strengthen the startup ecosystem is never satiated. No need for applicants to come with existing startup or venture capital experience; gener8tor team members have come from prior careers in journalism, academia, economic development, science, politics, law and nonprofits.
The Community Manager will focus their time on cultivating an environment of support and success across the Birmingham ecosystem, including serving as the manager of the Bronze Valley and gener8tor office in downtown Birmingham. As the Community Manager, they are responsible for:
- Managing the community office, including:
- Serving as the welcome wagon for anyone who engages with our community in our office space
- Creating and maintaining a welcoming, professional, clean, and safe environment for our community
- Managing the co-working community including member communication, onboarding and offboarding, answering questions, etc.
- Leading programming efforts to steward founder, investor, and mentor community, including:
- Facilitate investor engagement events to educate, connect, and support local investment in local startups
- In coordination with the gener8tor Platform team, plan, organize and execute two Lightning Rounds events focused on Alabama startups
- Provide logistics support on stakeholder engagement events with Bronze Valley, Innovate Alabama, Advisory Board, and other partners
- Coordinate founder activities to establish community among our alumni network
- Support statewide events led by gener8tor or Bronze Valley, including logistics and operations for accelerator program showcases, industry conference, and Lightning Rounds investor events.
As a member of the gener8tor team you will be an essential part of our overall international platform, and a core driver of the strategic alignment across programs in Alabama. The full gener8tor platform connects startup founders, musicians, artists, investors, universities and corporations and includes pre-accelerators, accelerators, corporate programming, conferences and fellowships. Your support as our intern will impact startups by providing crucial support to connect startup founders across our network of mentors and investors as well as municipal and corporate partners.
Requirements
- Entrepreneurial spirit and a self-starter. Experience as a program/project manager, in accelerators, venture capital or entrepreneurship support organization recommended.
- Experience with event planning and/or community engagement programs.
- Flexibility to travel up to 25%, work some nights and weekends.
- Collaborative, team-based mindset. You will be working closely with other Program Managers, Managing Directors, founders, external program partners, and ecosystem stakeholders.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly independent environment and juggle multiple ongoing projects, responsibilities and external relationships.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A willingness to intensively and rapidly dive deeper into the startup, strategic investment, and credit union communities even if already familiar.
