General Description: Reporting to the Director of Community Health, the position provides support to the HIV/STD prevention program. This position collaborates with prevention specialists, administration, external stakeholders and the community health director. Candidate will have a minimum of three years' experience as a medical assistant plus experience with sexually transmitted disease (STD) treatment and able to work in an interactive public health environment, including a background working in a medical office environment utilizing a variety of databases.
Prevention Program Responsibilities:
Works as part of a team.
Must be able to work with a variety of diverse populations, including the LGBTQ+ community.
Generates and prepares data and program reports; conducts data entry tasks.
Assists with quality assurance activities, including chart reviews and other quality-related tasks.
Maintains client charting system, reports, spreadsheets and other necessary program documentation.
Follows agency, program and all applicable procedures and policies, including safety regulations. Conducts recruitment efforts for HIV/STI testing.
Performs HIV/syphilis/STI tests by rapid and traditional methods, such as blood draws, using the Foundations of Testing and Navigation (FTN) protocol.
Maintains HIV/syphilis/STI testing client and other program-related files.
Follows agency and program procedures and policies, including safety regulations and guidelines.
Consults with Tarrant County Public Health on specimen transport issues and regarding follow-up services, as needed.
Assists coordinating HIV/syphilis/STI testing activities.
Performs initial and follow-up sessions, as needed, per FTN guidelines for persons diagnosed with HIV.
Assembles, prepares, and delivers test specimens, as needed.
Precepts new staff for venipuncture training.
Assists with training new testing staff on testing documentation, specimen collection procedures and lab processes.
Enters required testing data accurately and in a timely manner.
Ensures timely reporting of program process objectives.
Attends Community Health, agency, and other meetings, as required.
Attends local, statewide, and other trainings and conferences, as available.
Completes time sheets accurately and promptly.
Develops and works with program volunteers.
Monitors program medical supply stock, ordering and maintenance, including biohazard waste disposal service.
Performs duties in conjunction with new initiatives and programs, as needed.
Participates in condom distribution activities.
Ensures HIV-positive clients enter medical care via linkage to care activities.
Makes appropriate referrals to in-house and off-site resources.
STD Treatment Responsibilities:
Provides STD clinical treatment and STD education to clients:
Obtains brief client medical history and pertinent information.
Explains treatment procedure to client in easy to understand terms.
Prepares and administers medication as directed by standing delegation orders.
Instructs clients about medication and side effects before medication administration.
Provides clients with education regarding health maintenance, especially in the realm of HIV and STD prevention.
Properly logs and reports treatment information for each patient.
Orders clinical (STD) medications monthly from state health department.
Inventories and tracks clinical supplies and medication supplies.
Reports monthly inventory of clinical supplies via state health department database.
Maintains and tracks STD treatment client and other program-related charts for follow-up.
Updates and files patient medical records appropriately.
Assembles, prepares, and delivers blood and other specimens, as needed.
Provides client phone consultation as needed.
Other Duties: Performs all other duties assigned by supervisor/director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent, experience working as a medical assistant providing STD treatment. Strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated multi-cultural competency; experience
working with MS Office, database and other software; and organized with the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
This position must work cooperatively with other staff, patients, and providers.
Knowledge of HIV/STD issues, with the ability to adhere to confidentiality and other security guidelines
and safety standards.
Maintain valid driver's license and vehicle insurance or similar.
