Job Title:Community Engagement Officer

Location: Atlanta, Georgia (hybrid: in-person work in the community, not office -based)

Classification: Exempt under FLSA

Salary Range: $60,000- $70,000 (commensurate with education and experience)

SELF is a national award-winning non-profit Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) with a mission to rebuild and empower underserved communities by providing access to affordable and equitable capital to homeowners, landlords, developers, contractors, and small businesses to help transition communities towards an inclusive clean energy economy. Founded in Florida, SELF has expanded and now serves most of the Southern United States. Due in part to the recent passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, there is historically unprecedented momentum toward clean energy and home resilience. As the country’s first local Green Bank, and an established and proven pioneer of climate equity, there is need for SELF to lead this national movement. Position Overview

SELF is looking for an energetic self-starter who wants to embark on an exciting career path in the non-profit, community development financing sector, with a focus on energy equity, solar, and home resilience. SELF seeks a Community Engagement Officer who is an outgoing, solution-oriented, professional, committed to sustainability, increasing the health and economic resiliency of families, and providing community leadership. The Community Engagement Officer identifies opportunities to publicize SELF’s lending programs, increase our project pipeline, and expand SELF’s lending portfolio in Georgia. He/she/they will organize, lead, and facilitate community meetings and represent the organization to a variety of potential clients, including homeowners, contractors, neighborhood associations, community and faith-based organizations, city and state agencies, and local government partners. This position requires flexibility and creativity as the day-to-day work is exciting and ever-changing.

Education, Experience, and Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• At least 2-3 years of experience in community organizing and/or community relations.
• Experience in marketing, communications, or sales.
• Experience with CDFIs, community development, impact investment, or community banking is preferred.
• Interest and commitment to climate justice issues is preferred.
• Experience working with regional nonprofits and low-to-moderate income communities preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as exemplary customer service and people skills.
• Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to multi-task.
• Ability to show accuracy, timeliness, and adaptability to changing circumstances.
• Ability to work with and relate to people of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
• Ability to understand the challenges of individuals and families experiencing poverty and difficulties in finding affordable financing.
• Ability to work independently and to make judgments within the scope of the job.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and utilizing database software (e.g., Salesforce).
• Basic knowledge of home sustainability renovation (ex: roofing, impact windows, air conditioning) practices preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Organize, lead, and facilitate community outreach meetings and events to support the growth of SELF’s loan programs and networks, sometimes at night and/or on weekends.
• Represent the organization to potential clients, homeowners, contractors, neighborhood associations, community and faith-based organizations, city and state agencies, and local government partners. Grassroots and organic outreach is required.
• Identify community groups, organizations, and events to join and support.
• Identify opportunities to publicize SELF’s lending programs, increase our project pipeline, and expand SELF’s lending portfolio.
• Generate pipeline and loan closings in Georgia, with a focus on the Atlanta Metro Region.
• Work closely with SELF’s Atlanta based Loan Officer as well as our Marketing Director, Loan Program Director, and Executive Team to advance lending in GA.
• Travel throughout the Atlanta Metro Region and occasionally the State of Georgia.
• Other related duties.

Physical Demands and Vision and Hearing Requirements

Candidate must have the ability to walk, stand, and sit for long periods of time, and must be able to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 20 pounds. The ability to communicate with internal and external clients via phone, email, video calls, and text is a daily expectation.
